This is kind of both a rant and a request for information.
As someone who is a fair musician but more of a songwriter and composer(on my old Korg 01-wfd Workstation), I had always longed for something that could in essence, take my song ideas out of my head and just record them. A few years ago, I thought I had found software closest to that idea in a program called UJam. What this program could do was take your singing, humming, or however else you record your melody, and put backing music to it in any genre you would want. And then you could tweak it from there. Well, because of my procrastination AND not wanting to add another program to my old computer at that time, I foolishly didn't take advantage of that software. And when I checked into getting UJam again, I found that they had completely changed how they did things, and the most depressing change was that they all but did away with that nifty ability to just sing or hum a tune and be able to add backing instruments to it. To me, this was such a groundbreaking software and so useful to songwriters and people who maybe can't afford to hire studio musicians to make their songs reality. I have tried looking for other music software that can do this, but always come up short. There is some music accompaniment software out there, but you generally have to find and put in the chords you want and then it will generate music behind it using those chords as the template. While those are pretty neat in and of themselves, I thought the ability to just sing a tune and have music added to it was just outstanding, and I wish UJam wouldn't have stopped it. Just wondering if anyone knows of any software out there with that ability, because I haven't been able to find any since UJam. |
