raunchy and bawdy"
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv...ly-1235069184/ "I don’t remember Betty ever missing a line. It was so rare," says Lawrence, who first met White on The Carol Burnett Show. "She was so prepared. The only outtake I can remember ever was on Mama’s Family. (Her character) was having an affair with Mayor Tutweiler. We got to the taping and she said 'Mayor Tit-willow.' And it got stuck in her brain, and she couldn’t get it out, and it just digressed into a laughing mess. She was the consummate professional — Carol used to call it 'playing in the sandbox.' She never called it working. And Betty is the best playmate in the world. On game shows, and playing games with her, she was smart and clever. She was on it. She was so good at that stuff. If you were playing against Betty, you better bring your A-game because she was there to beat your a**." |

A bit ironic since Ellen was always so greedy, deceitful and mean- even to Mama!
Miss White said that people would go up to her and HISS when reacting to Ellen since Ellen had zero redeeming qualities (unlike even Sue Ann)! |

Loved when she was practically a regular during the second season. I thought the show did an excellent job in "Best Medicine," leaving Ellen and Thelma in a good place ... probably, IMO, because it was known that that would be Betty White's last appearance. Knowing what we know of her personality, I'm not shocked that Betty was willing and/or wanted to do one final episode despite Golden Girls taking off by that point.
That last scene with Ellen in the hospital is sort of bittersweet, at least to me, because that really closed the book on the NBC years. |
