Theranos Founder Elizabeth Holmes Found Guilty on Four Of 11 Counts, Faces Decades in Prison

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes was convicted today on 4 of 11 charges related to her company’s failed blood-testing technology.

A San Jose jury deliberated for nearly 50 hours over seven days before finding the disgraced former CEO guilty on three counts of fraud and one of conspiracy. Holmes was acquitted on four other charges, and jurors were unable to reach a verdict on three other fraud counts.



Holmes, 37, who had pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges and testified in court, faces a maximum prison term of 80 years — two decades on each conviction — but is likely to serve them concurrently.

No sentencing date was set but is expected at a hearing next week.

Right now justice in the US is such a joke.

She's given 6 months to 'surrender'?

Her ass should have been in jail the instant she was convicted.

I'd be astounded if she actually serves her full sentence.

Just look at what happened in LA this week. Some cretin purposely mows down 25 police cadets driving the wrong way and they let him out the next day.

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes attempted to leave the U.S. shortly after she was convicted of fraud last year, prosecutors claimed in a court filing this week.

According to the new court filing in response to Holmes’s request to remain out of prison pending her appeal, the 38-year-old bought a one-way ticket to Mexico last January.



“Only after the government raised this unauthorized flight with defense counsel was the trip canceled,” the filing claimed.

The filing added: “The government anticipates [Holmes] will note in reply that she did not in fact leave the country as scheduled – but it is difficult to know with certainty what [she] would have done had the government not intervened.”



In response, Holmes’ lawyers filed emails to the court that argue Holmes planned the trip to Mexico before the verdict in her trial and she was traveling to attend the wedding of a friend.

“Given the verdict, she does not plan to take the trip…But she also had not yet canceled the trip, amidst everything that has been going on,” the email read.

It is very difficult to impossible to just flee the country and just move to another country now. Almost every nation on Earth have treaties with the USA to extradite. The countries that dont are countries she wouldnt want to live in if she could. Iran, North Korea, Syria, Yemen, Cuba, probably others even if these counties would allow her to stay. I would suggest to someone fleeing to try Cambodia, because the country is very open to foreigners coming there to live because foreigners have money, the government asks few questions of note and basically sells residence permits. But because of pedophiles, and the USA having laws making it a crime to molest a child overseas, the USA works closely with Cambodia to track people. She would also need a new identity, which is not easy....

Getting a new identity is now almost impossible. It used to be fairly easy until about twenty years ago (and especially after 9/11). People used to steal identies by using the identification of deceased people, especially deceased babies. Then go to the local county clerk and request a copy of the birth certificate, get a driver's license from that and now you have a new identity. I actually want to do this because I have a minor criminal record from 27 years ago which still follows me around unfortunately. Also, it is nearly impossible to get a new Social Security number unless you are in witness protection by the government or running away from a violent spouse or family member.

There is an interesting story of a woman who had a mysterious past who moved from Idaho to Texas, married a man and had two children. She was sort of nuts however and didnt devulge anything about her past or her family. When her in laws would bring this up she would be evasive and would say that they were dead and she had no other family (which is possible, my stepmother who is about 75, her parents are dead, she is an only child and literally has no other family) but that is rare. The woman in question killed herself by gun, and the husband's family started digging into her past, discovered that the person she claimed to be was a dead infant from the 1960's and she sort of roamed the west before moving to Texas to settle down. It is an interesting story and recently private detectives found her real family, and they had no clue what made her do this. She wasnt abused, she was educated, did not have an abusive spouse. The woman just laid plans and split.

So just riding off into the sunset to a faraway land is nearly impossible. One needs a new identity (nearly impossible), plus a country that will take you in, asks no questions, has no relationship with the United States, these countries dont exist. Brazil use to be a good option. I have always had this fantasy for some reason of running off to Argentina. But Argentina would ask, "Who are you?" "Why are you here?" Maybe I just like the tune "Don't cry for me Argentina...." too much.

Hmm. In Enough, Slim found out someone named Erin died and she went to an office and claimed she lost her birth certificate(With a sweet smile) She used Erin's information get a new driver's license. Enough was released in 2002,the year after 9/11. I remember wondering if it would be that easy to use a dead identity and get a new identity that way. I was like,"Wouldn't the office know that Erin DIED and that Slim was obviously trying a con?

I'm not claiming to be an expert of anything, but as I recall....the old tombstone scam went something like this: Find someone who was born in one state, but died in another before they were old enough to get a social security number (seven years old was a reasonable upper limit)

Go to the birth state (before modern electric records keeping was the norm) and get a certificate of birth, and just expand from there. The redeeming grace was that if the birth county was "backwoods" enough, they would have no access to the public records system and through ignorance would grant your request.

The internet screwed most of that up...Now with just about everyone online, and pervasive access to records even across state lines it's not so easy.

In 2003 when I moved back to Indiana, I had to jump though some hoops to get my new drivers license without forfeiting my out of state license.

But, getting a copy of my birth certificate was surprisingly easy. I remember thinking at the time "anyone could have just done this" Of course I was completely legit, so I had nothing to worry about getting caught, but still there seemed to be a shocking lack of checks and balances.

IIRC, Erin in Enough wasn't a child, she was a grown woman when she died. If Erin has been like 3, it would have been plausible. But I think Erin was already like 40 when she died.
