If Sex Symbol was filmed today

This morning I saw "Sex Symbol" on Rewind TV. If that episode was taped today, Mrs. G. would have a talk with her 7 girls about slut shaming and how it is wrong. There was lots of slut shaming in this episode and Mrs. G. didn't say a thing. Of course this was the early 80s and things were different.

And I do believe Mrs. G would have said something to Cindy, Nancy, and Sue Ann, as well.

I certainly would hope that no one on the show would use the term 'slut shaming'!

I HATE that term because, via its usage, it utilizes a somewhat inflammatory term for the first part to attempt to call out unfairly targeting and/or harassing a woman or girl. IOW, by greenlighting said term, regardless of the intent, one HIGHLIGHTS to any offender as well as the offender's target about what was being claimed about an innocent woman or girl! How can one say 'You're slut shaming her!' without the other person not being reminded of the term slut AND in thinking that if it's okay for a person's defender to use it in a woman or girl's presence, then why not anyone else? IOW, it winds up being totally self-defeating!

Women, girls as well men and boys have ALL paid far too much a price re the glorification of inflammatory and vile language in the last three generations after being told it was supposed to be 'liberating'(and that's not even starting as to how debased discourse of all kinds has devolved).

I think it would be better if Mrs. G. just told them that they were unfairly tarring this individual and jumping to bad conclusions about anyone with little or no 'evidence' is hateful and wrong- without using the term 'slut'! The English language has LOTS of non-inflammatory terms that can be used that spell out a large variety of concepts and thoughts!

That term was never claimed by anybody with any true self-respect in the first place!

Oh, and that article is over four years old .However, in the intterrum I have detected no signs of the term 'slut' somehow becoming 'empowering' for anyone willing to hear what they need to hear instead of telling themselves what they want to hear! Moreover, it's still done nothing to actually get anyone having used that term to intentionally slander a woman or girl to sincerely feel remorse for having done so instead of responding 'well, YOU called her a/SHE called herself a . ... IOW, the term 'slut-shame' has proven to be a New Millennial FAIL re its ostensible intent of somehow calling out and 'shading' slanderers of women and girls!

If the show were done today, I'd hope they'd use non-inflammatory and non-profane terms to address deliberate slander of one of the teens. The English language has thousands of them so NO need to resort to profane or vile terms.

Facts of Life would just use a code word for slut shaming. Just as "Strange" and "Hormones triggered" were code words.

It’s definitely aged poorly trying to paint Natalie as anything but the victim. Saying she went along with it makes her just as guilty is very problematic
