Default Yay! or NAY to 'Head'?

For the Monkees' very first post-show project they made a movie about. ...

either a brilliant societal discourse with many deep meanings

OR a convoluted, pretentious, depressing and boring mess!

So which is it?

Convoluted, pretentious, depressing and boring mess! Did they really think their 10 and 11 year old fans would... heck, I won't even finish the sentence.

Granted, but Mr. Zappa would go on to name one of his sons after the pet name he'd given for one of his wife's toes [Dweezil] so consider the source!

To each one's own but I'm with Dick York WAS Darrin on this one!

Virtually the ONLY genuinely entertaining part of the movie was Davy Jones dancing with the then-unknown Toni Basil while singing 'Daddy's Song'- which somewhat hearkened back to British music hall songs.

Even Micky's whole gag of commandeering a tank to blow up a Coca-Cola machine to get something to drink while he was stranded in a desert was so padded and drawn out that the dimmest viewer LONG since got what his goal was by the time he FINALLY shot the machine. Timing is everything and the humor had long past its window.

Oh, and then it had Peter say he couldn't hit a woman (actually a transvestite) server for the 'kids' sake' but the movie HAD shown a newsclip of someone (in real life) SHOOTING another person in the head during a live interview!

No surprise that it confused and disturbed the few kid fan viewers whose parents let them watch it AND alienated and infuriated most of the adult viewers who found this movie an unpleasant mess. It totally bombed at the box office but, in recent decades, there have been some who have tried to pitch it as having been too deep and ahead of its time for the audience to appreciate.

Oh, and I HATED 'The Porpoise Song'- a self-pitying, depressing dirge!

IMO, it was AWFUL!
