Default Tournament Round Two: Head of the Class (1986) vs. Mad About You (1992)

Head of the Class aired five seasons on ABC from 1986-1991. Howard Hesseman was the star of seasons 1-4 as Mr. Charlie Moore, teacher of the IHP: Individualized Honors Program for the school geniuses. The principal Dr. Harold Samuels did not like Charlie, he was intended to just be a substitute but became permanent. Howard did not want to continue with season 5. His replacement Billy Connolly as Billy MacGregor was horrible. The starting students were quiet but gorgeous Simone Foster (Khrystyne Haje), tough guy Eric Mardian (Brian Robbins) whose mother made him be part of the IHP, Arvid Engen (Dan Frischman), scam artist Dennis Blunden (Dan Schneider), Darlene Merriman (Robin Givens), Sarah Nevins (Kimberly Russell), Alan Pinkard (Tony O'Dell), Jawarhalal Choudhury (Jory Husain), Marie Borges (Leslie Bega), and 12 year old Janice Lazarotto (Tannis Vallely), who was much younger than her classmates. Jeanetta Arnette was the vice-principal Bernadette Meara. At the end of season 3 Janice, Maria, and Jawarhalal all left. Replacement students were Viki Amory (Lara Piper), Aristotle McKenzie (De'Voreaux White), Alex Torres (Michael DeLorenzo), and annoying T.J. Jones (Rain Pryor), who somehow had been moved up straight from the remedial class to the IHP. Even more absurd with T.J. was her being named valedictorian in the series finale over everyone else who had never been in remedial (Dennis was briefly demoted there).

1st Round: defeated The Addams Family 12-9

The original run of Mad About You aired 7 seasons on NBC from 1992-1999. Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt have great chemistry as the married leads Paul and Jamie Buchman. Starting out Paul's best friend was Jay Selby (Tommy Hinkley), who added nothing to the show. Selby was dropped halfway through season 1 and replaced with Paul's cousin Ira (John Pankow). Leila Kenzle was Jamie's boss and best friend Fran Devanow. Richard Kind was Fran's husband Dr. Mark Devanow. Fran and Mark got divorced in season 2. Anne Ramsay was Jamie's sister Lisa Stemple. Cynthia Harris was Paul's critical mother Sylvia, and Louis Zorich was Paul's father Burt who said hello to Regis Philbin. Carol Burnett recurred as Jaime's mother and Carroll O'Connor recurred as her father. Murray (played by Maui) was Paul's big dog from before marriage who lived in their tiny apartment.
