Happy birthday, Mark Twain! This famously witty writer (who had 19 🐱 cats!) was born on November 30, 1835. He was born & died when a comet 💥 passed, once noting: "I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't." He got his wish. He died on April 21, 1910, just 2 days after Halley's Comet had reached its point closest to the Sun. Here are 10 curious facts about his life... https://www.almanac.com/interesting-...out-mark-twain

Twain was a huge cigar/pipe smoker and they even named a cigar brand after him. He said it (tobacco) was a very important part of his creative process.
He hosted a lot of dinner parties for his friends, who all smoked, and he was known to not like those who insisted on smoking only the most expensive brands. He would offer his guests cigars, but he would put the brand name of a cheaper one on an expensive one. His guests would often refuse them as they thought that they were a cheaper brand and most likely brought their own. Meanwhile, Twain would smoke his "cheap cigar" with them and his friends would scoff asking how could he smoke that stuff. |
