The Sanderson Sisters have awakened once more. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have descended upon Rhode Island, where filming on Hocus Pocus 2 has officially begun, Disney announced Monday after Halloween.

Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ in fall 2022.




According to new plot details released by the Mouse House, the new Hocus Pocus will pick up 29 years after the original where the Sanderson Sisters are now looking for revenge when they find themselves back in Salem in the present day. It's up to three high school students, who incite the wrath of the enchantresses, to stop them.

Those three teens are Becca (Gossip Girl's Whitney Peak), Cassie (Dirt's Lilia Buckingham), and Izzy (American Horror Stories' Belissa Escobedo).




Other new cast members include "Ted Lasso" Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham, "Veep" veterans Tony Hale and Sam Richardson, "Vanquish" actress Juju Brener, "Teen Wolf" alum Froy Gutierrez, "Earwig and the Witch" voice actress Taylor Paige Henderson, and newcomer Nina Kitchen.

Doug Jones will also be reprising his role as Billy Butcherson.




"I am beyond thrilled to be involved in the sequel to a film that is as beloved as Hocus Pocus," director Anne Fletcher said in a statement.

"Fans around the world have embraced these characters and have made this film a Halloween tradition whose popularity continues to grow, and how lucky am I to be back at Disney with these three extraordinarily talented ladies in the iconic roles they created, as well as our fabulous new additions to the cast?"

Producer Adam Shankman Unveils Hocus Pocus 2 Premiere Date

Producer Adam Shankman took to Instagram on Friday to unveil a premiere date for the anticipated Hocus Pocus 2, announcing that the sequel to Kenny Ortega’s 1993 Disney classic will debut on Disney+ this Halloween.

“SISTAAAAAHHHHSSS! Aaaaand that’s a WRAP!!! #hocuspocus2 Congratulations to the amazing team @bettemidler @sarahjessicaparker @kathynajimy @567and8 @mrsleshem and the WHOOOOLLLEEEE cast and crew!!!” an enthused Shankman wrote upon production wrap.

Thora Birch won't Return for Hocus Pocus 2

Thora Birch was asked to reprise her role as Dani Dennison in Disney+'s upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel, but a source close to the actress tells EW she had to decline due to scheduling conflicts.

At the time of Hocus Pocus 2's production Birch had signed on for Netflix's "Addams Family"-inspired series "Wednesday" which prevented her from joining. Birch reportedly exited that series in December.

Disney had no comment on Birch's potential involvement.

The Sanderson Sisters are being resurrected once again this Halloween season in the highly anticipated Hocus Pocus 2, which will haunt Disney+ on September 30, 2022, it was announced today.

“It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters who were executed for practicing witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to figure out how to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.”

Original Thackery Binx Voice Actor not Returning for Hocus Pocus 2

Actor Jason Marsden, who voiced the feline version of Thackery Binx — a 17th-century victim of the Sanderson Sisters cursed to live forever as a black cat — will not return for the Disney sequel, a source close to the actor tells EW exclusively.

Bullies Jay and Ice not Returning for Hocus Pocus 2

Actors Larry Bagby and Tobias Jelinek — who portrayed the fan-favorite high school bullies Jay and Ice in Disney's 1993 Hocus Pocus — exclusively tell EW that they weren't invited to reprise their parts in the upcoming sequel.

"Unfortunately, I am not a part of it," Bagby says, though he recalls his manager submitting him for a small role as the owner of the Salem Magic Shoppe, which can be seen operating out of the former Sanderson house in the first teaser trailer. "I never got an audition for that," he says. "But that would've been clever, even me just playing a cop or something."

"Jay and Ice will not be in Hocus Pocus 2," Jelinek adds in a separate phone call, going on to reference Disney's anniversary special that premiered in 2018. "The 25-year bash, that really felt like Hocus Pocus 2, because we had Kenny Ortega directing, and it was the first time the original producers and all the kids were there.... even though we're not in Hocus Pocus 2, it felt like we got to have our reunion on TV."
