Tournament Round One: The Wonder Years (1988) vs. George Lopez

The original Wonder Years might be the most successful show to have a series premiere after the Super Bowl. It lasted six seasons and 115 episodes on ABC from 1988-1993. Retro set in 1968, The Wonder Years stars Fred Savage as 12 year old Kevin Arnold. Dan Lauria plays his father Jack. Also starring Alley Mills as Kevin's mother Arnold, Olivia D'Abo in earlier seasons as his sister Karen, Jason Hervey as his mean brother Wayne, Josh Saviano as his best friend Paul Pfeiffer, and Danica McKellar as Winnie Cooper. Danica's real life sister Crystal recurred as his nemesis Becky Slater, and Robert Picardo recurred as his gym teacher Coach Cutlip.

George Lopez also aired six seasons on ABC, from 2002-2007 about a Latino family. Starring comedian George Lopez as himself, except on the sitcom he was a factory manager. Constance Marie played his wife Angie, Belita Moreno played his horrible mother Benny, Luis Armand Garcia played George and Angie's son Max, and Masiela Lusha played their daughter Carmen. The final season lost a step when Masiela left and George's niece replaced her. Also starring Valente Rodriguez as George's best friend Ernie and Emiliano Diaz as Angie's father Vic who emigrated from Cuba. Movie star Sandra Bullock was an executive producer and appeared in three episodes as Accident Amy, a clumsy employee at the factory.
