The Dick Van Dyke Show aired five seasons on CBS from 1961-1966. Starring Dick Van Dyke as Rob Petrie, a married man who was head writer for The Alan Brady Show. Rose Marie (Sally Rogers) was originally intended to be the female lead. But Mary Tyler Moore's popularity as Rob's wife Laura changed that plan. Morey Amsterdam played Buddy Sorrell, Rob and Sally's co-worker. Their boss was Mel Cooley, played by Richard Deacon. Also starring the show's creator Carl Reiner as Alan Brady, Jerry Paris and Ann Morgan Guilbert as neighbors Jerry and Millie Helper, and Larry Matthews as Rob and Laura's son Ritchie. CBS wanted more than five seasons, but Dick Van Dyke decided to end while it was creatively on top.

The Jeffersons was a spin-off of All in the Family that outlasted the parent show, having a long 11 season run from 1975-1985. Yet it didn't get to have closure, CBS did not let them know ahead of time it was cancelled. Starring Sherman Hensley as ill tempered George Jefferson who had too short of a fuse. Isabel Sanford played his wife Louise who went by Weezie. The Jeffersons had a huge supporting cast that included Tom and Helen Willis, their daughter Jenny who married George and Weezie's son Lionel (played by two different actors), and George's mother who had to be killed off after Zara Cully died irl. My favorite supporting characters are maid Florence played by Marla Gibbs, and British neighbor Harry Bentley, played by Paul Benedict.
