This certainly is interesting news! In looking through some other articles I was unable to find much more information on the mother's name, as the daughter has said she wants to keep the woman's identity private to protect her children.
However, I was able to find some interesting information in a WBIR newspaper (which can be found here: https://www.wbir.com/article/news/cr...7-28dc69a34402) While the paper does not list the mother's name, it does mention the following: "The woman was from Maine, got married at 17, had a little girl, divorced and then to her father's dismay proceeded to have several more children, all of whom she gave up for adoption. Eventually, she'd marry and have three more kids in New England. That family never knew about her earlier children. Whatever she knew about the men who fathered her children out of wedlock she didn't share with the family. Gillcrist's birth mother was still alive when Gillmor figured out in 2018 who she was. Gillcrist would go on to contact and communicate with her half-siblings. It took awhile for them to get over the shock. But she never got to meet her birth mother. The woman died in spring 2020." (bolding is mine) Additionally, I was able to also find further details in the Washington Post - https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...-dna-test-fbi/ The story revealed that "[Gillcrist's] birth mother had listed a different name for her father on the adoption records and on her original birth certificate." Lastly, I found some info in a New York Times article: https://www.nytimesn7cgmftshazwhfgzm...bishop-jr.html Namely that Gillcrist speculates her mother and Bishop met "at a party or bar while he was in college". Not sure if any of this is helpful, but I hope some of this scant info can lead to more discussion and questions! |
