This is the one where the kids are asking the parents to do things for them at the last minute. My mom would not iron my clothes nor would my dad type my work for me no matter how early I asked them to do so. I would have been expected to do it myself. Betty was way old enough to iron her own clothes.
I thought it was odd that the kids asked in the first place. I don't think the Cleavers would put up with the same crap that the Andersons are asked to put up with. They ruined this show with Bud acting stupid. They had a good thing going in a lot of ways. Sometimes this show really sucks. Sometimes I regret buying the series.

Betty was old enough to iron her own clothes. Another time she sweet talked Jim into doing an outline for her--she just didn't have the time. Yeah, I can just see Wally asking Ward to do his outline. That'd end up with the den doors closed, and a lecture.
Later in the show Bud started regularly doing pratfalls, walking into the wall instead of thru the door, leaning his kitchen chair back and falling. In the real world he'd probably need a medical evaluation. In the earlier years he was slightly more responsible and level-headed--later, more of an airhead. For instance, in a season 1 episode he admitted to Margaret he told the Rev. he missed tagging a baseball runner at home plate, allowing a winning run to score, not because he didn't want to lie, but because he didn't want to disappoint her. So this young Bud had a conscience--yet in season 6 he lets Betty take the rap for running a stop sign when he did it. I'm in kind of a break mode with the show right now--every once in awhile it needs to go into the background. Whereas I used to put on DVDs when Antenna showed it, now it's kind of on Antenna in the background. It's interesting how much better the DVD picture quality is than the TV showings. |
