I set up my DVD recorder to record Get TV, but got a message saying that the recording on this program was blocked. I then changed the channel during the recording to MeTV and Antenna TV, and the recording started, with no pause/blocking. I tried this with all three VCR/DVR recorder combos I own, and had the same experience. I have heard of Cable TV networks blocking home recordings (mostly movie networks such as HBO or Turner Classic Movies), but never heard of a over-the-air Broadcast TV network doing the same thing, or even having the capacity to do so!
Anyone else have a similar experience? |

My only problem is something Comcast does. They block recording on any local channel.
I have one of those older DTA cable boxes, in addition to a regular newer one, and the old one doesn't block. I'll check the older box and see what happens with Get TV. |

I have heard of this but as of now it hasn't happened to me. I don't record shows or movies from TV very often anymore and it's probably a good thing because if I tried to record something and got a message that says the recording is blocked, I would be furious.
With regards to GetTV, I no longer receive it, my cable service cancelled it awhile back and replaced it with Start TV. |

The DVD recorder gives an error message about the inability to record copy-protected material. Very annoying.
For some reason my old DTA box has a "clean" signal. |

IF Comcast insisted on a properly-designed cable box which would deliver a "clean" signal (the current cable box obviously allows viewing but there must be artifacts of the copy-protect in it) then at least legal time-shifting would work.

I want to make sure I'm getting this straight, are they now blocking DVR recordings? If the DVR can't record anything with a copyright then why have a DVR (virtually everything is copyrighted).

No, I'm sure you can record on a cable company-provided DVR. He's talking about a DVD recorder that he owns.

Come to think of it, I was wondering if this is one of the reasons Walker Texas Ranger is moving from Get TV to Heroes & Icons. Inquiring minds want to know! |

I have had a similar problem with Buzzr TV. I tried recording Match Game Hollywood Squares using my antenna, over the air waves (not cable) and I also got a "Copyrighted Material" message on my DVD recorder. But when I use my Digital converter box then I can record. Or even when using cable for Buzzr there's no stop copy signal. Weird. I never heard of an antenna channel blocking recording before either. Haven't tried recording off GET recently ever since they took off Mike Hammer. Boy did that come and go fast and they never showed the Hammer/Keach movies either. But Get will gladly show 20 hour marathons of TX Ranger. Who in their right mind is watching those endless marathons of Ranger anyway?

Leave it to Mr. Rogers to tell it like it is! The cable company really should NOT be doing this!
