I believe that work is very good for anyone unable to avoid it. I've retired twice now, once at 46, and more recently at 62.
And never having to set an alarm clock when going to bed ...absolutely rocks!!!

Our state has about 80,000 sleeping on the streets. These people don't work, they may have, many are vets and worked for military, and many are drug drop outs.

I can't imagine NOT working, I did for over 40 yrs and great great experiences and friends I made on that journey.

This was such a strange article. The authors state that more and more women have entered the workforce, but none of the seven main reasons given include stay-at-home dads or husbands. Instead, they posit that many men are clamming, berrying, and foraging?!

The numbers are also terribly off because they include 16-18 year old "men" in the statistics. But few 16-year-old "men" are going to have a full-time job. Actually, I don't know any at all. Add to that the number of men in college or trade school (who also likely won't have full-time jobs) and millions of men disappear from these statistics.

Well, I have not worked for five years.
I've got a bad case of hernia both in my back and in my neck and weird sleeping patterns.

Funny how left wing yahoo only complains about men not working and not women. The main reason women don't work is because they are supported by men.

The workforce is loaded with women and has been for decades. And many women are the major wage earners. To say women are supported by men, yes that was true in my mother's generation but it's all changed. And the cost of living -- has thru the sky unless one enjoys the streets.
