Default Did Norm Macdonald ever think about hosting a game show?

I heard a story many moons ago that Norm McDonald was gonna get into hosting game shows when ABC was gonna offer him a game show at the time his sitcom Norm got cancelled and I often wondered if the story was true. I know Norm was featured on Million Dollar Password and so I wonder had he not passed away would Norm McDonald would've been a great game show host?

If any producer felt that Norm McDonald would be the right fit for the show, he would host a game show. He wouldn't have been the first Saturday Night Live regular involved with a game show. Before joining the SNL cast, Phil Hartman was the announcer on the syndicated Pop and Rocker Game (which I sometimes refer to as The Rock and Popper Game).

I loved Norm as a comedian but I couldn't see him being a game show host. He had too much fun lying and insulting people. Being a game show host would be torture for him.

Depending on the game show, that could still work. The Weakest Link and The Chase are full of insults to the contestants.

If I remember, he did a Saturday Night LIVe impression of Bob Dole which I thought was pretty good. So sad Norm died only in his 60's

I think Norm would not have been a good game show host. He loved going off-script, telling crazy stories, and cracking himself up. He was the biggest "class clown" on TV. He didn't care if the studio audience didn't laugh. He'd tell OJ jokes even after the head of NBC told him not to tell OJ jokes, which is what got him fired from SNL in the late '90s.

It would have been a waste of his talent.
