Default Strong syndication sitcoms

Does anyone else notice that certain shows are in syndication and are on most local stations for years while others are not. For example, the Fresh Prince of Bellar is a show that has been on my location station ch. 11 WPIX in New York for years. Another strong show is the Cosby Show which is on three major cable channels as well as local syndications. Also a strong show in syndication Married with Children.

But other shows after one year or less in syndications are either moved to a late night timeslot edvedully off the schedule all together, or removed emiditally. Shows that come to mind Wayans Brothers, Clueless.

Why is that?

Hi, I see that your in the NYC area like me. Cosby Show is not on locals here anymore, but like you said it is on 3 cable channels (N@N, TBS, WGN).
I think Fresh Prince is dying on syndication, TBS has put it to early morning now, WGN could be doing that this fall.

Wayans Bros. airs on WPIX weeknights 3-4am. Clueless airs Sunday mornings on WPIX. It's all a ratings game, if it gets ratings it will stay.

About the Wayans Brothers, if a show is shown very very late at night it is doing well in syndication. It is on the verge of being dropped. Any talk show that debuts poorly and it not renewed for another seasons spents its last months in the late late night hours. For example Martin Shot show, Howey Madel show, Amanda Lewis show. So being at 3 in the morning is not great news. But I guess it is better than nothing.

About the Fresh Prince it seems to me that here in New York channel 11 always has the show on at either 6 or 6:30 pm and in the fall tries a new show at one of those time slots with the Fresh Prince taken the other and by January Fresh Prince is back at 6 and 6:30. Speaking of channel 11 normally they put the Honeymooners on at 12:30 am for the summer. It looks like they are not going to do it this year. Which is very unfortunete.

I think these show are doing very well in syndication:

Friends
Fresh Prince Of Bel Air
Saved By The Bell
Full House
Married With Children
Home Improvement
King Of The Hill
Seinfeld
Cosby Show
A Different World
Moesha
I Love Lucy

Pavandabal do you have any statistics (or anything) about Facts Of Life, ALF, Silver Spoons, and Small Wonder on (2nd) syndication?

...thank you.

I would add Coach to the list of strong performers in syndication. It has been in syndication since the mid '90's and is now leaving TBS after five years to go to Nick at Nite. I agree with you on the other shows, though. It helps that TBS keeps them on for the full time the contract states they can. I couldn't believe that A Different World was still in syndication last year when it came on my local fox (WNYW). It has been on TBS for almost 3 years too. It must do well.

Don't forget Family Matters. That is doing very well in syndication. It is on here in New York at 5:30 pm on channel 11. It has been in syndication for almost 10 years.

The Honeymooners air on Sunday nights on WPIX. At 12:30am.
That is so true about Fresh Prince, last fall it was only on weekends on WPIX, then I think Sabrina did bad and Fresh Prince took it's slot.

I think the top shows in syndication are these:
Seinfeld, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Simpsons, Married...With Children, Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, Family Matters, Home Improvement, etc.

Those shows you mentioned (FOL, ALF, Small Wonder and Silver Spoons) haven't been on local syndication in years. Silver Spoons was last seen in Detroit though for the summer of 2000.

For about five years my local WB station (WNOL) had the same after primetime lineup:
(all times central)

9pm: "The Simpsons"
9:30: "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air"
10pm: "The Cosby Show"
10:30: "The Wayans Brothers"
11pm: "Queen Latifah"
12am: "The Jerry Springer Show"

But they ditched that in October for a new sked:

9pm: "Everybody Loves Raymond"
9:30: "Friends"
10pm: "The Simpsons"
10:30: "The Wayans Brothers"
11pm: "Martin"
11:30: "The 5th Wheel"
12am: "The Jerry Spinger Show"

I liked the first one more. I'd like it like this:

9pm: "The Simpsons"
9:30: "Everybody Loves Raymond"
10pm: "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air"
10:30: "Martin"
11pm: "Living Single" (airs at an earlier time)
11:30: "The Wayans Bros."
12am: "The Jerry Springer Show"

I love Living Single! That is the best show. USA shows it buts its at like 8:30 AM and then 1 AM. These times are horrible for me. I'm either out or a sleep at these times. And no local stations show it anymore. WCTX (used to be WBNE) used to show it at like 12:30 and it was great for the summer time and WNYW in NY used to show it at like 5, then at 11. But now it is gone. USA will ditch the 8AM one for a movie or sport event whenever they get the chance. I WANT IT BACK ON AT GOOD TIMES DAMMIT!
