The Beverly Hillbillies and Bonanza are On GAC's Weekend Schedule

GAC (Great American Country) is a cable channel until now I had written off, they just seemed to air random reality shows. But I found The Beverly Hillbillies listed on my guide today. On weekends it airs approx. 6AM-12:30PM with off the clock, and Bonanza airs 12:30-8PM. That includes Labor Day this weekend.

I just checked the guide, and it's only going to be until September 12th.

All episodes are from Season 1 and appear to be the same episodes you’d see on one of those public domain DVD sets.

They are across many free digitnets as well, like the Circle channel and Lonestar.

TV Land, MeTV and INSP have Bonanza episodes across multiple seasons (i.e. have more than just public domain). INSP has the "lost" episodes, but I'm not sure of the split.

Maybe the new owners of GAC will try to go beyond public domain and pursue more programming rights of classic tv, similar to channels like INSP and feTV, since it'd be more like those channels, than Circle or Lonestar.

it's just another channel running the same handful of public domain episodes. Sickening already.

No it's not sickening. I enjoyed seeing what I did of The Beverly Hillbillies this past weekend on GAC, a channel I would have otherwise had no use for. The only other place I have seen TBH on recently was Decades, a great station but no affiliate in Fort Wayne sadly and their livestream is very sporadic.

It would be interesting to see if the next time you view this, is it the exact same programming as is on diginet 43.4 (W25TH-D)?

HC2 Broadcasting (a holding company) has been providing media streams for "open" channels that include early episodes of Beverly Hillbillies, Bonanza, Petticoat Junction, and a few others, staggered with infomercials

Could be that the country channel is using their feed, at least part time, as a source of programming

Maybe you misunderstood my comment. It's sickening the channels that are the running same small handful of public domain episodes over and over again instead of licensing the entire series.
Can think of at least 10 channels in the last year that have run the same ones from seasons 1 and 2.
At least FETV paid to get the entire series and hopefully will run the episodes that METV skips over each time.

Pretty sure those are the same Public Domain episodes too sadly. They just keep surfacing over and over again. Folk TV just ran them to death along with The Lucy Show and a few others shows.

It's interesting, in a way, what they are doing. HC2 prepackages the stream, and provides it to local area broadcasters who have open diginet subchannels.

So, if you were a local over the air broadcaster who have unused diginet subs, you could monetize your under utilized hardware by agreeing to carry HC2's stream.

We've got a half dozen diginet subchannels locally that carry the exact same feed. Which seems absurd.....way way on the side of over saturation.

But, I guess if you have the unused capacity and there is someone willing to pay you to carry the signal, it makes more sense then letting the channel sit "dark"?

Are multiple channels permitted to license the entire series? If say INSP has exclusive to the lost episodes of Bonanza, it might not be available to another cable network.

Perhaps GAC is still in a transition plan and this public domain content is just filler.

It appears GAC and Ride TV will become GAC Family and GAC Living, and it sounds they are trying to compete with Hallmark with original movies.

feTV still has public domain content in its daytime. I remember they aired Mary Tyler Moore and then it suddenly was dropped for Lone Ranger. I wondered what was up with that drop. Decades airs MTM and wondered if feTV lost the rights to it, but then why couldn't both air it, if Decades' main distribution is affiliates and not as a cable network. It was a sudden drop where feTV just started MTM and then dropped it for very old public domain westerns, unlike this new schedule change where feTV loses I Dream of Jeannie for Leave it To Beaver is more transitioned.

MTM and Bob Newhart were dropped my understanding was due to poor ratings. The Lone Ranger they air is not public domain as they have the entire series from Classic Media but unfortunately it has been run to death over and over again on their channel.
