As summer slowly turns to fall, North America's finest retro TV station, CHCH TV in Canada, may finally be ready to crack and end its summer-long suspense and reveal its new fall TV daytime retro schedule. Today, this was posted on its official Facebook page:
"Love Gilligan's Island? Watch back-to-back Gilligan's Island at 3:30pm and 4pm starting tomorrow. But only this week!" I told you about this double feature last week in the CHCH Summer 2021 thread. That shouldn't be a surprise. But check out that last line where it says, "But only this week!" This got my curiosity going and made me think about what will happen next week after the series ends. So I turned to my old reliable source TV Passport and once I was there I struck gold! Get ready for some great stuff ahead, both new and returning favorites with more to come later in September. Keep it here for the full update but for now this is what you will see once this month ends and the new one begins only 8 days from now! Let the countdown begin! CHCH FALL SCHEDULE - STAGE 1 (Effective Wed. Sept. 1) 10:00 am Matlock 11:00 Green Acres 11:30 I LOVE LUCY (replaces "The Beverly Hillbillies" - after only 2 weeks!) TV's favorite redhead is back on CHCH and at a very watchable time, compared to that horrible 3:30 am timeslot on Yes TV. 12:00 pm The Prisoner Only airing for 2 weeks. Its replacement will arrive in the middle of Sept. during what I'm calling Stage 2 of the fall schedule. 1:00 Hawaii 5-0 Now this is where it gets good!!! Ready? Here we go! 2:00 MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY That's right, Danny Thomas and his funny family arrive for what I hope will be a long stay. The first group of episodes will be from the early years, the Jean Hagen era, and the first episode shown will be "Boarding School". 2:30 The Brady Bunch --- Final week! Replacement series TBA. 3:00 THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW When CHCH began showing "Matlock" last fall, I was very disappointed that they didn't include this show as well. Now it's finally here and I'm very happy and pleased to get a chance to see it again. 3:30 Get Smart (New time! One hour earlier.) 4:00 The Odd Couple (New time.) 4:30 Family Ties (New time.) 5:00 Designing Women (One week left. Thank God!) 5:30 HAPPY DAYS The first retro series featured on CHCH 4 years ago is now back at its original time. Once the new shows start, I'll be back to give you the rest of the fall schedule changes. I hope they're as good as the ones that I've listed. I'm already getting excited. |

Thanks for the updates Sal. Finally some fresh shows. And I am glad Happy Days will be back. I am hoping for maybe Leave it To Beaver, Wkrp, Alice, and other shows I have not watched in a long time.

"Boarding School" is early, but it's the first episode of season 4--Jean Hagen was in the first three seasons.

I've been looking at TV Passport daily for some news, since CHCH doesn't seem eager to actually release a new fall daytime schedule.
Big disappointment that "Matlock" and "Green Acres" will still be on the schedule in September. If they can drop "Who's the Boss?" in the middle of airing the series, why not drop those two shows, too? Happy to see that "I Love Lucy" will be back. Wondering what they will air at noon, after they finish airing "The Prisoner." Something light at noon would be great. Maybe "The Flintsones" would be good. "Make Room for Daddy" and "The Andy Griffith Show" are new to me, and I hope they are good. I will have a look. I feel like with "Happy Days" comes "Laverne and Shirley." Or "Cheers." It feels like one of those might replace "Designing Women." I hope I am wrong. Hopefully more new shows will be added, or not aired on CHCH shows, like "WKRP" or "Bonanza" or "My Three Sons," or any other "Lucy" show, but it feels like the channel is not too interested in what the viewers want to see. |

As long as we're all trying to guess what might come next --- and I have no doubt that there will be more good ones on the way --- I'd like to take a shot at it myself and see what happens.
I believe that with "Happy Days" coming back at 5:30 I will predict that "Cheers" will be returning as well to its former regular spot at 5:00. As for new stuff, I was thinking that with "Make Room For Daddy" at 2 pm and "Andy Griffith" at 3, do you know what would fit in nicely between them at 2:30 pm? How about "The Dick Van Dyke Show"? All 3 classic series were produced by the legendary Sheldon Leonard. I don't recall of either Antenna or Me having all 3 of them on at the same time, never mind putting them on after each other. This would be a tremendous coup for CHCH if they can pull this off and would only reinforce my claim that it is indeed better than its US counterparts. Other possibilities that I can see: New series - "Petticoat Junction", "My Three Sons", "Family Affair", "The Golden Girls" Returning series - "Maude", "Mary Tyler Moore", "Bewitched" If anyone else wants to get in on this guessing game, everyone is more than welcome to join in. For an added incentive, On Sept. 1st, Fall Premiere Day, I will provide a free 24/7 working link to CHCH's live stream which is not from its own website so that even US viewers can watch it whenever they want. I guarantee you 100% that you will love it! |

I've just been looking around on the CHCH facebook page and under the thread asking viewers to guess about what retro show is coming to CHCH on Sept 1 (The Andy Griffith Show) someone who claims to work for the station said that "Bonanza" will be airing on CHCH beginning on September 15th - at noon, after "The Prisoner" finishes it's run.
I don't know if that's true. That's one of the shows I was hoping would air on some Canadian station, but had thought that a channel like VisionTV would air it, as they already air "LHOTP" and "The Waltons." Instead they are adding "Parenthood" to the fall lineup. I haven't seen "Bonanza" airing on any English language channel in Canada for many years. It did air on a French station a few years ago. We shall see. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" would be great. I saw a couple of episodes on CBS a few weeks ago and I thought it was quite funny. Somehow I always expect "Bewitched" to return, sooner or later. If they are going to keep airing "Green Acres" then it would be nice to see "Petticoat Junction." Tomorrow looks like TV Passport will probably have what show is replacing "Designing Women." |

I must admit, "Make Room For Daddy" doesn't do anything for me, and I never really got into "The Andy Griffith Show".
I'd rather see some shows on this schedule that haven't been seen in a while, such as *That Girl (haven't seen that in decades, where is it?) *My Three Sons *WKRP in Cincinnati *Family Affair I guess "All in the Family" is probably out of the question. Regarding returning shows, anytime "Bewitched" is on the schedule I'm OK with that. Wouldn't mind seeing "Mary Tyler Moore" or "Bob Newhart" get another run through. I could do without "Happy Days" or "Cheers". There's so many episodes it'll take a year to run thru it, they were on the schedule for quite a while already and only the first few seasons of both shows were good. Is it possible to request shows? |

I wish I was in charge of picking the shows
I have been trying to think of shows that I have not watched in years. Leave It To Beaver The Twilight Zone Welcome Back Kotter The Love Boat WKRP Alice Night Court Silver Spoons Growing Pains No more Norman Lear shows for awhile. They are tiring to watch. Too much drama and editing for racist content. I am tired of the turbulent 70's. Lol And no more hillbilly shows please. I would be open to bringing back Taxi, The Partridge Family, Brady Bunch at some point. As Torcan said the problem with having really long series like Happy Days, Cheers, The Jeffersons, Mash is that their last 3 or 4 seasons suck. Lol |

Regarding long-running shows like "Happy Days", "Cheers", "Bewitched" and others, the best solution could be to show them back-to-back. That way, they'll be finished after only a few months instead of an entire year, and then you will have 2 spots to fill and two more new shows to look forward to, or only one if you're adding a drama series. They did this before with "Bewitched" and again right now with "Gilligan's Island", which makes less sense since that series only had 98 episodes. Another idea would be to add extra episodes on the weekend, which has also been tried before. That would make a great alternative to the old movies and infomercials that they normally show, not that the movies are that bad, it's that they always show the same titles. So that needs to be changed and soon but I'm not expecting that to happen.
Only one more day to go before the new additions arrive with more sure to follow soon. I'll have more details tomorrow. If you aren't happy with what's coming up, you can make your requests on CHCH's Facebook page. CHCH - Facebook |

September 1 has finally arrived and CHCH TV has officially launched their new fall schedule with the lineup that I've mentioned above. There are still more changes ahead which won't take place for a couple of weeks but even though they still haven't made a formal announcement yet, I would like to announce them myself right here. So now for the first time, I present to you, the final, official CHCH TV Fall Daytime Retro Schedule - Stage 2.
10:00 am Matlock 11:00 Green Acres 11:30 I LOVE LUCY (Premiere Date - Sept. 1) 12:00 pm BONANZA (Sept. 15) It was mentioned here before and now I can confirm it. Lorne Greene, Michael Landon and the other Cartwrights will indeed be saddling up for a long stay at the Ponderosa once "The Prisoner" is released in 2 weeks. 1:00 Hawaii 5-0 2:00 MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY (Sept. 1) The series begins with Season 4 and should continue for at least a couple more. I'll be watching closely to see how far they go. 2:30 MY THREE SONS (Sept. 14) The best new addition of Stage 2 by far! The entire series will be here starting with the very first black and white episode "Chip Off The Old Block". This is very good news and I can't wait to see it again! 3:00 THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW (Sept. 1) 3:30 Get Smart 4:00 The Odd Couple 4:30 Family Ties 5:00 WHO'S THE BOSS? (Sept. 14) The obvious weakest link in the lineup. This sorry excuse for a show will pick up where it left off just before Season 5. 5:30 HAPPY DAYS (Sept. 1) This looks like a good schedule that any retro network would be proud of and that the others could certainly learn from, which leads me to my last surprise. On its own website, CHCH has a live feed which can be reached anytime but it only tends to work properly during the early morning "Morning Live" show and the evening news shows at 6 and 11 pm. The rest of the day, it's fairly useless! So, for all the US retro fans on this site that wish to see how a good station is programmed, you can watch CHCH live for free right here: CHCH TV - LIVE FEED (Press green "Download" button to start feed on VLC.) |

Very happy to see "Bonanza" and "My Three Sons" on the schedule, and very disappointed that they would bring back "Who's the Boss."

I never expected to see My Three Sons on local TV again, what a great surprise. CHCH seems to have gotten over their reluctance to air black and white shows. I guess they figure if you're gonna go retro might as well do it right. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before Leave It to Beaver, Hazel, Dennis the Menace, Mister Ed, The Munsters and The Patty Duke Show appear on the schedule.
