Tom T. Hall, a Country Music Hall of Fame artist who wrote unassuming songs with distinct depth, died Friday at age 85. Hall died at his home in Franklin Tennessee, according to his son, Dean Hall. A consummate country songwriter who penned the classic "That's How I Got To Memphis, captured life's intimate details with lighthearted songs such as "I Like Beer" and showcased era-defining sharpness with "Harper Valley PTA," Hall entered the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008, alongside Emmylou Harris, The Statler Brothers and Ernest Stoneman. Many knew him as "The Storyteller," an apt nickname given to Hall by a fellow legend -- Tex Ritter. A Grand Ole Opry member since 1971, the venerable radio program paid tribute to Hall late Saturday. "Thank you for all of the music, Tom T. Hall," the Opry shared on social media. "We’ll miss you |

Tom T. Hall has passed away? I don't recall him being ill and I thought he had retired from music. My mom has some Tom T. Hall albums and I have to admit that some of his songs were funny and some were cute like the song I Care which Tom could've easily put on a children's album if he made one and another song of his that's really funny is Ravishing Ruby that so cool. My favorite song of Tom T. Hall's is Deal which could've been used on the game show Catch-21 and Deal's an awesome song that's fun to sing. But his signature song he will be best known for is I Like Beer which was used in a Michelob commercial sung by Chris Pratt and I have a feeling that Chris Pratt will do a Tom T. Hall tribute album because Chris sounds just like Tom. But Tom will be a legend in music for years to come

I wonder why it isn't being shared what went against him. Was it an unexpected passing?
God bless you and his family always!!! Holly |

Tom T. Hall — the legendary singer-songwriter who wrote hits like "Harper Valley PTA" and "That's How I Got to Memphis" — died by suicide, according to new reports from the Tennesseean and Rolling Stone. The Country Music Hall of Famer died at the age of 85 in his Franklin, Tenn., home in August 2021. No cause of death was revealed at the time. However, on Wednesday (Jan. 5), the blog Saving Country Music revealed that Hall sustained an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head," based on a medical report obtained from the Williamson County, Tennessee Medical Examiner. Rolling Stone has since confirmed this as Hall's cause of death, stating that a spokesperson for the Medical Examiner's office says that the "manner of death was ruled a suicide." An Olive Hill, Ky., native, Hall was born on May 25, 1936 and entered the music industry as a deejay on West Virginia and Kentucky radio stations after a stint in the Army. He had his big break as a songwriter when Cajun and country singer and Grand Ole Opry star Jimmy C. Newman cut his "DJ for a Day," and he went on to write songs for the likes of Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. Arguably the best-known song of Hall's lengthy catalog is Jeannie C. Riley's "Harper Valley PTA," which was a chart-topping hit and crossover success in 1968. Alan Jackson also had a hit with a Hall cut, "Little Bitty," in 1996, and Hall was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. Hall's death was first confirmed by his son, Dean Hall, in August 2021. |
