Default Suggestions for Guest Jeopardy! Hosts for September 20, 2021 and Beyond

Hello Everyone,

As many of you know, earlier today, after taping a week's worth of "Jeopardy!" shows as Alex Trebek's permanent successor yesterday, Mike Richards abruptly resigned his position as new permanent "Jeopardy!" host.

In light of this surprising information, I have a slew of suggestions for 10 potential "Jeopardy!" guest hosts starting September 20, 2021, none of whom as of this moment are confirmed or denied to be "Jeopardy!" guest hosts.

Excluded from the suggestion list is Mayim Bialik, who is set to host prime-time "Jeopardy!" specials on ABC starting in January 2022, as well as others who guest-hosted last season after Alex's passing e.g. Ken Jennings & LeVar Burton.

1. Neil Patrick Harris -- Best known for his roles on the '80s Hospital Drama "Doogie Howser, M.D." and the 2000s sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," Neil Patrick Harris is somewhat of a rookie to Game Shows, having hosted the short-lived "Child Geniuses" and the unsold pilot "American Know-It-All." Born on June 15, 1973 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Neil is 48 years old and married to husband David Burtka, his husband since 2014, with whom he has fraternal twins Harper and Gideon.

2. Pat Sajak -- Having spent his last 40 years as "Wheel of Fortune" host on both network (NBC) and nighttime Syndication, Pat Sajak previously guest-hosted "Jeopardy!" on April 1, 1997 in an April Fool's Stunt when he and Alex Trebek switched jobs for the day, Alex having hosted the April 1, 1997 edition of "Wheel of Fortune." Pat Sajak was born in Chicago on October 26, 1946.

3. Denzel Washington -- Besides the number of films he appeared in, Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr. got his big break on television via the '80s Hospital Drama "St. Elsewhere," where he portrayed Resident Dr. Phil Chandler (or as I like to jokingly call Denzel's character, "The Original Dr. Phil"). Born and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, Denzel was born on December 28, 1954.

4. Howie Mandel -- Another alumni of "St. Elsewhere," Howie Michael Mandel, Jr. was born in Toronto, Canada on November 29, 1955. Currently one of the judges on the Reality Competition show "America's Got Talent," Howie's prior Game Show experience is as host of the 2005-2010 Game Show "Deal or No Deal" on both NBC and Syndication, as well as its 2019 CNBC revival. Though he admittedly has severe OCD, Howie would be a perfect potential "Jeopardy!" guest host, because the role DOES NOT require shaking hands or fist bumps.

5. Wink Martindale -- Who doesn't remember this iconic Game Show legend? Born and raised in Jackson, Tennessee, Winston Conrad "Wink" Martindale was born on December 4, 1933, meaning he'll be 88 years old in December. He and Sandy Ferra, his wife since 1975, live in Calabasas, California. Wink is the father of 4 grown children with ex-wife Maddie Leach--including a son, Winston Conrad "Wink" Martindale, Jr., known to his family as Wink, Jr.

6. Billy Joel -- The iconic famous musician was born on May 9, 1949 in New York City, New York and raised soon afterwards in Long Island, New York. He and his 4th and current wife, Alexis, are the proud parents of 2 little girls ages 4 and 6. In addition, he also famously has a daughter, Alexa Ray, with his 2nd ex-wife, Christie Brinkley. Billy Joel is 72 years old.

7. Dan Travanti -- Best known for his role as Capt. Frank Furillo on the hit '80s Cop Show "Hill Street Blues," Danielo Giovanni "Dan" Travanti (credited professionally as Daniel J. Travanti) was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on June 7, 1940, meaning he's 81 years old as of earlier this Summer.

8. Fred Savage -- Another somewhat rookie to Game Shows, Fred Aaron Savage is best known for his iconic role as Kevin Arnold on the hit '80s Family Drama "The Wonder Years." His prior Game Show Host gig is the short-lived Ricky Gervais game show creation "Child Support" in 2018 on ABC.

9. Ted Danson -- Best known for his 11-year run on the hit '80s sitcom "Cheers," Edward Bridge "Ted" Danson III was born in San Diego, California on December 29, 1947 and raised soon after in Flagstaff, Arizona. He is age 73.

10. John Astin -- Finding initial fame as Gomez Addams on the 2-year wonder '60s sitcom "The Addams Family," John Allen Astin is 91 years old and was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 30, 1930.

I agree with the suggestion of Pat Sajak. I couldn't figure out why he didn't do it in the first place.

How about John O'Hurley?

I'm not sure why all the superlatives were needed as all these people are household names.
Wink Martindale, Daniel J. Travanti and John Astin are too old, but if I were going to pick someone in that age range I'd choose Johnny Gilbert. I'd like to see him host one episode. Howie was good on Deal or No Deal, but I can't see him hosting Jeopardy. Billy Joel is an odd choice, but it would be interesting to see him do it. I would rather see Daniel Stern than Fred Savage. I'm no fan of Neil Patrick Harris so no way would I watch if he did it. I'm undecided on the rest.

Former contestants Brad Rutter and Austin Rogers should do it too. And how about Dan Patrick since he did Sports Jeopardy for a while?

One candidate who I mentioned in a previous post but didn't get the opportunity to host is Mo Rocca of CBS Sunday Morning. He hosted The National Geography Bee and he has the right personality for the show. But my girlfriend and I are pulling for Mayim Bialik to become the new permanent host.

Steve,
Did you pick Billy Joel as a guest host for Jeopardy? I can imagine what I would do if I saw Billy Joel guest host Jeopardy? Can you imagine sweaty palms and the weak feeling I would get just from seeing Billy host? But he would be a strong choice to guest host Jeopardy. A second choice would be Jeff Goldblum because he is smart and full of fun and he would be great to see on Jeopardy as a guest host and if they like Jeff he will most likely get the job

Maybe they should forget about selecting a permanent host and keep doing a different guest host every month?

I can just see it now with Billy Joel hosting.

Player taking too long to answer....
Sings "For the Longest Time".

Player questions ruling against them....
Sings "Don't Ask Me Why"

Players all give same response during final Jeopardy....
Sings "You May Be Right"

Player caught cheating....
Sings "Honesty"

Close race at final Jeopardy....
Sings "Pressure!"

Player gets every response right during the game....
Sings "Big Shot"

Player gets every response wrong....
Sings "You're Only Human"

Here is someone I thought of who could be a good host for Jeopardy. How about actor Benedict Cumberbatch? I think Jeopardy should let Benedict try out for a guest hosting job because he is smart and talented and my mom agreed that he should add game show host to his resume
