I am wondering about part of the show where Wally & Beaver were looking through Ward’s Seabee chest. I thought in the previous airings of the show you at caught a glimpse of Ward’s uniform on MeTV. Am I right about that? Was it cut from the show or not?

Do you mean like a picture of him in his uniform or the uniform was in the trunk?

No physical uniform. What was his pay grade as Seabee and doing what did as Surveyor? They never said so I guess we will never know. I suppose it doesn’t really matter that much. It would have interesting to known more about that even though he was jus fictional character.

I don't remember seeing the uniform but I remember the episode with the boys looking thru the trunk. I must have missed part of the episode because I didn't see them open the trunk this time around--I just remember Ward telling Beaver he'll have to accept his o'l Dad the way he is.

As far as the uniform goes I don't remember seeing it in any episode. The only thing I remember previous to that trunk episode is Ward modeling the new hunting jacket the boys bought for him. In a later episode he was preening at the mirror, admiring himself with a hat on. But no uniform.

As far as pay grade goes, in that trunk episode I remember him telling Beaver he was an engineer, so I imagine that was pretty good pay. It made me wonder why he didn't pursue that field after the Seabees--we don't know his exact job but from clues we get it almost certainly wasn't engineering.

I can envision a possible tie-in between being a surveyor, and going to work for a title company in the private sector.

He mentions in one episode that he was home from work early because he needed to 'look at a property' near by and didn't feel it would be worth going all the way back to the office, just to leave for the day.

In an early episode he mentions a marketing survey and suggests to June she look it over.

Who knows, maybe he switched jobs. The show being about the kids, we'll never know, but it's fun to speculate.

That, IMO, is really the most comprehensive explanation for myriad "WTH?" moments throughout the series.

Right! Over on Facebook there's a lot of questions: Why don't we know more about Ward? June? Any siblings? Parents alive?

Anything we learn about adults is incidental. Ward might talk about an old girlfriend, being in the Seabees, etc. but it's either incidental information or involves something with the boys. Ward's uncle is on the show twice, but the script involves his interaction with the boys. Same with Aunt Martha. No script is about any adult.

In the early intros to Everybody Loves Raymond, Ray mentions the twins and the daughter, but he then says, "It's not about the kids."

In LITB, it's not about the adults, not about where Mayfield is, not about what Ward does for a living, not about June wearing pearls while cleaning. It IS about the kids.

I guess once it was established he had been in Seabees as a Surveyor it was that important to Beaver or even Wally what his rank in the Navy was.

Its about the kids. Their perspective is the main focus. But the adults steal the show a lot. Ward's levelheaded guidance, female conquests, olden days stories. Fred is incredile with his bragging, and condescending remarks. Uncle Billy, Mrs Mondello, Ms Landers, Mrs Rayburn all have huge contributions. And the superior acting of the adults. A lot of the child actors on LITB didnt go bigtime afterwards because a lot are horrible actors, only thrivng on LITB. Its about kids, but I think sometimes it's used as a cop-out to glance over lazy writing. The show would suck without the adults telling the kids how dumb they are.

The one-shot kids were mostly horrible actors, but most of the main cast kids are OK. Rusty Stevens is outstanding--so are Jeri Weil and Ken Osmond. Mathers himself is also, until he hits the growth spurt late in season 4. After that he's just biding time till it's over. So much so that his acting skills seemed to decrease over time.
