Default Mel's mother

Since I realized Alice was on Antenna TV, I've been watching it almost every night for the last 3 months.

Martha Raye definitely had some funny moments on the show, but IMO she was featured on the show too many times. Some of those face and gut slaps she gave Vic Tayback look and sound like they really hurt. What do you guys think?

Yes his mother only needed to be seen once or twice at the most

But the weird thing is that not only was Carrie petite while Mel was a big galoot, so was his paternal grandmother 'Grandmother Sharples' (played by Merie Earle who'd played the fiesty old character Maude Gormsley in 'The Waltons') who called him 'Melvin' so I suppose Mel and his late father both took after his REALLY big paternal grandfather!

She first appeared when Flo was still around and not seen much until the later seasons when scripts were getting thin. I thought she added something to the show most times. I thought the episode where her and Alice sing Do ya think I'm sexy was a bit too much

i watched this show when it was new and didn't think anything special about her ... now that I'm watching the reruns, I adore her!

I only like seeing a character's mother once or twice. Not anymore than that

Mel's mother was a gem compared to Alice's mother. I loathed Alice's mother. She was horrible, nagging, manipulative, pushy, obnoxious, just an awful, awful lady!

Mother Jefferson was so mean to Louise for no reason. I hated that! Alice's mother was still worse IMO. I wanted to smack her when she force fed Alice's date that turkey.

Actually I'm disappointed she didn't appear in the final season to kinda wrap up the character.

She was funny but got a my nerves a bit. They were obviously trying to make a female version of Mel
