TV Creator Phil Rosenthal Says No Network Wants to do a "Raymond" Reunion

"Everybody Loves Raymond" Creator Phil Rosenthal Says “No Takers” Yet for Reunion Special
by Alexandra Del Rosario
July 30, 2021

"Everybody Loves Raymond" creator Phil Rosenthal has a number of ideas for a cast reunion, but finding a home for the special has been harder than expected.

Here’s what I really can’t believe. I’ve pitched to now a couple of different places,” Rosenthal said on SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw. “We can do a reunion special, we can tell the stories of the things that have happened to us at home… and it seemed to work for Friends and, no takers.

Maybe someone will hear this and say, ‘Hey, this seems like a no brainer.’ I think people like the show, I think they would like to see the cast together.

He continued: “If they see money, they go for the money. If they see demographics that they want, they go for that. I’m not blaming them. Times are tough for them as well. And I’m not singling out any network.

There are plenty of entities who have been involved with the show that could do a reunion show and a reunion special, certainly doesn’t cost as much as producing a real episode of a show.

There is no point in having an Everybody Loves Raymond reunion with Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle both dead, plus one of the twins committing suicide. Friends cast is all living of course. I am disappointed in Brad Garrett that he wouldn't reunite with Patricia Heaton on The Middle. The only other adult cast member of Raymond who didn't appear on The Middle was Peter Boyle who had a good excuse of already being dead.

Also, Robert Culp, Katherine Helmond, Georgia Engel, Fred Willard, Charles Durning, and Len Lesser have since died.

The Sweeten twin was sure a sad story.

I wonder if Rosenthal has approached TV Land, which shows a lot of episodes every night.

To me, those who are no longer here is the reason why a reunion should be done. A reunion is one of the many things that keeps a person's memory alive.

God bless you and the remaining cast members always!!!

Holly

P.S. Because CBS was the station that picked up the show, CBS should be the network that shows a reunion special for the program.

Being that I see him doing commercials for some kind of sandwich, did he really think he was too big a star to do The Middle?

^^^ Maybe there wasn't any room in his schedule whenever his presence was requested. After all, his professional life also went on after Everybody Loves Raymond wrapped up. My most favorite actor is in the first Beverly Hills Cop film as well as the third one, but because of his being a part of the Perfect Strangers TV show, getting to be in the second film was not in the cards, I love Bronson Pinchot so much!!!

God bless you and him and Brad Garrett always!!!

Oddly, Madi Sweeten/Ally Barone would have made an interesting casting choice had they rebooted "The Bad Seed" about 14-16 years ago instead of in 2018.

Madi's version of the "bad seed" character would likely have been written differently since she's downright voluptuous compared to McKenna Grace.

If there ever is a reunion, I'd like to see Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton tell stories about working with the older cast (Peter Boyle, Doris Roberts and the ones that played Debra and Amy's parents), which I am sure they would.

I'd love an in-character sequel series with Ally, her husband and their children.

Shailene Woodley should be brought back in any ELR sequel series:

It would be funny to see Ray become like his father and Debra become more like his mother.

If so, Ally would soon feel like she's in this TZ episode - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Simon

If anything, we should please everyone and have a entire dedication to Marie, Frank, Warren, Lois, Hank and Pat if it will get everyone to agree to a reboot. :P
