...because they just are simply not believable.
Let's face it. Some of their segments are so implausible or ludicrous that producers just had to fake them because they were hard up for content. Off the top of my head: 1) the girl who fell over the edge in Arizona and moments later was back up on top with no memory of how she got back up. Uh, no. 2) the woman who was paralyzed with MS and one day huzzie came home to find out that she could now walk. Uh, I don't think so. 3) the church completely disintegrated in a fiery explosion when none of the choir members were there. Simply not believable, I'm afraid. I know there are more, but can't think of em right now. |

The church explosion really happened. Google it. Lots to support that

UM wasn't some tabloid show and they didn't fake segments. They may have covered some cases that turned out to be hoaxes but they never made anything up.

I think Craig Williamson faked his amnesia and ran away from a marriage he regretted

As a little kid watching that update for the first time, I learned what a publicity stunt was. |

I don’t think that UM filmed fake segments on purpose. I can however think of several times that they were probably tricked. Katie with her gold foil, Tyler’s fake amnesia, and Craig Williamson come to mind.

I think that was more about money than the segment let on. They owed close to $500k due to their failing “exotic” fish business, and his disappearance meant that she had to shoulder that entire burden. He didn’t want the marriage or the debt so he left her to pick up the pieces

Add Eagle the dog to the list where UM got duped (but they were far from alone until the owner was caught planting "evidence"):
https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Eagle Eagle was cool, but his owner definitely was not, and I really don't believe her sentence was harsh enough. |

In fact, that was the point in the series when it really began to cover more supernatural type stories. It's possible that they never intentionally faked anything, but I wouldn't bet money on it. |

Craig Williamson was a complete coward. I’m glad he got called out on national TV. 😂 |

Williamson wasn't faked per se- he WAS missing for over a year. Whether the amnesia was faked is anyone's guess.

I don't think they "Faked" anything per se but there is no doubt they had no problem letting obvious crackpots get air time
