Post Jump The Shark: All In The Family

When do u think AITF jumped the shark? I think it did when Gloria and Mike left. They were a very good part to the show.

I think when the show got more serious from the seventh season on, and Archie was turning softer, but, moreso, when Stephanie joined the show

When Stephanie joined the cast it started to go down hill.

Hottest Men alive:

Tim McGraw
Jonathan Crombie

Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?

Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.

Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.

Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.

Definitely after Mike and Gloria left, and especially after Stephanie came on. I can't even watch the episodes with her. zzzzz

BTW, where does the expression "jump the shark" come from?

Marta2:

I think I remember hearing the phrase "Jump the Shark" had something to do with the tv show Happy Days. I don't know if one of the cast members said it on the show or something, but I think it came from Happy Days.

In the three-part episode of "Happy Days", where Fonzie visits Hollywood for a screen test, he is challenged to water-ski over a hungry shark, and succeeds in jumping over the shark

Definetely when Mike and Gloria moved to California, and Stephanie moved in. The show was still funny, but not as funny.

Definitely when Mike and Gloria left and when Stephanie moved in. AITF was still a good show regardless but it lost a bit of its charm when those events occurred.

Take care,
Tanya.

I definetly think the show was better in the Mike-Gloria eps, but I don't think the show ever jumped the shark. Does anyone know why Mike and Gloria left the show?

On E! True Hollywood Story they said that all the cast members wanted to leave after a while but they got Archie and Edith to stay but they could not talk Mike and Gloria into ot. That is also why they went to Archie Bunker's Place, because Edith was tired of doing the show.
