I recently read his The Answer Is... Reflections on My Life autobiography Alex wrote shortly before he died. He mentioned several of his earlier flop game shows, but nothing whatsoever was mentioned about Classic Concentration. I kept waiting for the chapter on that. While not as famous as Jeopardy! of course, Alex did get three Emmy nominations for hosting Classic Concentration.

It lasted 4 years, then aired for another 2 years (?) in reruns, so I wouldn't consider Classic Concentration a flop. I read that during the rerun period, Alex proposed to NBC that they produce new episodes, so I don't think he was overall negative on the show (especially since he was already busy with Jeopardy and didn't need the extra work).

I Disagree on that, Trebek never had problems with Classic Concentration during the time when the show was aired.

When Alex Trebek was gonna host Classic Concentration in 1987 I think Alex was simply happy to have another game show to focus on besides Jeopardy and with Classic Concentration Alex got his wish. Because when Classic Concentration debuted Alex Trebek wanted to say "now here's my chance to become a superstar" and Alex really proved it well. But when Classic Concentration ended I think it left him very sad because he wouldn't have his second game show and he would go back to Jeopardy. But had Classic Concentration continued longer Alex Trebek would still have been happy
