"It’s sort of built like the kind of show that runs forever," says longtime Simpsons producer Mike Reiss. "The Simpsons, is just about the world, about humanity and what’s going on in the world and what we do as humans, and for us to give up on the show is to say we’ve explored everything human beings can do and anything that can ever happen in the world." ...And just like that, The Simpsons has just declared itself the most EVIL scripted TV show on U.S. Broadcast TV.

I don't know if Mike Reiss's words are serious, or if he's just coming up with more excuses for The Simpsons to get out of ending its original run. Anytime The Simpsons wants to shoot for a particular milestone (like 30 seasons), it ends up becoming reality. It means holding back even MORE up-and-coming animated shows on FOX-TV, like it did with Bless the Harts (thanks a lot, schedule limitations!).

The big deal is, scripted primetime TV shows simply cannot run forever.

I remember back when they claimed they only wanted to hit the 365-episode milestone.
