Default Mammie Watkins: Selfish tramp

The tramp Mammie Watkins obviously had no self respect seeing as how she allowed herself to remain the mistress for over fifty years. She is also super selfish thinking only of herself and not Blanche's mother or even little Blanche when she up and ran like a coward, not even saying goodbye to Blanche. Blanche loved that dumb tramp. Mammie Watkins could have dropped her a line instead of totally abandoning her, not showing up for thirty years only because she wanted something.... the music box that represents adultery and lies. Then when Blanche finally relents and gives Watkins the only music box she has, Watkins realizes that it's the wrong music box and proclaims: "We went through all of this for nothing"! What a BITCH! She didn't give a crap about Blanche. She was only thinking of herself.

So I see you’re watching GG on Hallmark too.

Anyways, I do agree that Mamie Watkins was a bitch. She left all those years ago and finally, she returns after being absent for over three decades and then as soon as she waltzes into Blanche’s house, she expects her to kiss her ass and look over the fact that she abandoned her with no goodbye or an explanation, having Blanche think something was wrong with her, no how you do, no are you alright, no it’s awfully nice to see you.

Yes, I was watching it on Hallmark!

Mammie Watkins was cruel and thoughtless. She gave Blanche a complex, thinking it was her own fault that Watkins left. Horrible woman! I hope Blanche's mother kicked her butt when she found out!

Lawd, Wawwie, you have a way with words. I could actually picture you saying “I hope Blanche’s mother kicked her butt when she found out” in a pissed off voice. It REALLY makes me visualize Blanche’s mother smacking the taste outta Mammy Watkins’ mouth.

Just saw this episode again recently, and it’s hard to sit through. Not because we learn just how much of a tramp Mammy Watkins was, but the whole Mammy character kinda disgusts me. I get this was a different time, and we probably wouldn’t see episodes like this on TV shows today, but it pains me to see Ruby Dee play an 80 year old woman who sounds like an old plantation lady with some bad IBS. Just a total stereotype. And to see the way this woman gets all excited over Blanche’s dead father and his music box is gross and just furthermore proves my point about the stereotyping of elderly black women from that time. I doubt Big Daddy ever loved her the way she claims he did anyway, he was probably just using her for sex.
