Nearly every morning when I watch TV I have noticed that the commercials today are catering to seniors 55 and over and I can't figure out why the commercials are doing this? Is it because the TV viewers now are 55 and over or is the senior citizen audience the second largest TV audience next to the younger audience? Because when you turn on any channel the commercial breaks have commercials for life insurance illnesses health insurance and Ensure commercials get a lot of airplay too. And when you watch Buzzr or METV all the commercials are health oriented and it tells me that METV and Buzzr are hits with seniors and they get a lot of money for airing health commercials. I remember when all the channels aired commercials for everything for everyone but now with all these senior oriented commercials flooding the market will the regular commercials for everybody make a giant comeback?

I discussed this topic with Mom yesterday and she noticed this when watching Perry Mason on METV and she agreed that there are so much senior oriented commercials devoted to health and senior oriented products on TV. I think this is the new way TV commercials are airing now. I remember when you would turn on the TV they would have food commercials cleaning product commercials and other commercials but now today's commercials are for products such as Ensure life insurance doctors illnesses and medicine. I mean we want to see more commercials for everyone not watch Discovery Health Channel. If "as The Mandalorian says "this is the way" that TV commercials are going we need to bring back commercials for everybody not just seniors

right now I'm watching a lot of 1970s era shows so it makes sense that senior type commercials are airing.

Definitely not. Only if you’re watching such things like Antenna, METV, or Buzzr.
Or CBS

Hi, Bestie! Yes on off the grid TV like METV there are a lot of senior commercials, because that is who is watching METV. They cater the commercials to the audience. I don't have cable so I can't tell you if they are showing more senior commercials, but they might be because seniors have money. Good question.

I don't think that the commercials with the guy twirling the drumsticks across his fingers are senior oriented, nor the ones with the trans couple dining at the sidewalk cafe. I think the "bent vegetable" commercial is targeted at a broader audience, as well. Then there are the photosensitive eyeglasses that turn fruit colors when exposed to sunlight that are too adolescent to be targeting seniors. Same thing for the "Serena-Wonder Woman" drivel, and the phatt-azz "hottie sauce" commercials for Popeyes chicken. I also believe that all the inane Emu and talking lizard commercials are targeting a millennial audience.
But, all those second mortgage as well as the medicare supplement provider commercials are, as are the incontinence supply and prostrate control wonder drug commercials. Too many pharma commercials in general, I think they are trying to culture a nation of hypochondriacs. Why should they be advertising anything that I have to "ask your doctor" before buying? That is just totally stupid. |

I think it's because the health commercials generate a lot of money to attract the target audience which is seniors 55 and older but I have never seen so much health commercials get a lot of airplay on TV and some of these commercials that get tons of airplay are for medicines such as Advil illnesses such as heart attacks strokes cancer and body aches and Life Alert and healthy food such as Ensure and diet commercials and what I think it is that's it's a new trend for seniors this year. As I mentioned in my other posts in this thread we need to see good commercials for everyone with commercials for candy food and cleaning products and beauty products and they should tone down these health and senior oriented commercials and make more food and cleaning product commercials because that alone makes TV worth watching

Hi, Bestie! You are right. Commercials are aimed at senior nowadays. Why? Because we are the ones buying everything. Young people are cheapskates who spend their money on coffee, cell phones and other useless stuff that only benefits them. Seniors are buying food, furniture and other stuff that the cheap millenials use but do not pay for.

Yes there are a lot of products and services aimed at seniors. But back 50 years ago there were commercial that seemed to aimed a little more for children. Games, cereal, diapers, and then I remember the bra commercials and Mido and Tampons. . The mid line area were cars, chewing gums, coffee, tea, and hundreds of others. It is possible that the senior medical products are on oldies stations for oldies watch the station, but it doesn't have to be. I also notice that on certain stations, could be an CBS or NBC on the saturday morning news shows, you see the same commercial within a 15 minutes period. I like Myaim Byalik ? but I don't need to see her ad with the brain supplements.

It depends on what channel you watch. MeTV and Antenna TV are aimed at older viewers, hence the endless life insurance, medicare commercials. You watch a Court Show - endless lawyer commercials. Football -beer and cars. Most prime-time networks shows have a diverse audience and have diverse actors/actresses of every race and sexual orientation to bring in as many potential customers as possible. Just business.
