Does anyone remember the 1987-1989 syndicated sitcom D.C. Follies? There haven't been many mentions of the series on here over the years. I always thought that it aired for only a single season, but it actually ran for two full seasons and 44 episodes. I think TV Land might have aired some episodes years ago, but it probably hasn't seen often since it left the air.
I remember watching and liking it on early Saturday evenings. The late, great Fred Willard was the only human regular cast member. The puppetry and voice work was very well done. I'm surprised they didn't try to revive it in recent years with the interest in political figures. Fox did something similar recently with puppets in their Let's Be Real series. D.C. Follies had a special guest star for most episodes. Some of the sitcom stars who appeared include Martin Mull, Julia Duffy, Bob Uecker, Edward Asner, Dick Butkus, John Ratzenberger, Jimmie Walker, Whoopi Goldberg, Harry Anderson and Yakov Smirnoff. Shout! Factory released the complete series on DVD on November 14, 2017. I ordered it recently from Amazon to revisit it. I don't remember any of the details of the episodes, so it will almost be like viewing them for the first time. It looks to be a nice 4-disc set with no special features. They have an episode guide with the guest stars printed on the inside cover. Synopsis A kooky cocktail of 1980s politics and pop culture! Stop us if you've heard this one before: two puppets walk into a bar in Washington, D.C. ... what's that? You have heard this one before? Then have we got a show for you: D.C. Follies! Brought to you by those masters of trippy TV, Sid & Marty Krofft (H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost), D.C. Follies stars the one and only Fred Willard (Best in Show, Fernwood 2 Night) as the bartender in the hottest joint our nation's capital has ever seen … and where the clientele is made up of puppet caricatures of the biggest names in show biz and affairs of state! From the world stage to the puppet stage, Fred and his most-irregular regulars sock it to the culture of the day with a satiric style that really makes its presence felt. With an array of timely, non-puppet guest stars along for the ride, D.C. Follies is a handy way to look back and laugh at the 1980s, no strings attached. Includes All 44 Episodes! Purchase D.C. I remember watching it a little during its original run.
