Cool Grady insulting Aunt Esther

When Grady was in charge of Sanford when Fred left temporary, he copied Fred's attitude toward Esther by insulting and commenting on her look. Even when Lamont was there.

If I was Lamont, I think I probably be pissed off if somebody (that is a guess in my house) degrade my aunt. Relation between Fred and Esther is a family matter. But Grady is not family

Honestly I thought Fred went TOO FAR with Esther. Esther would genuinely try to be nice to Fred at times, and he would just not let up on her. I honestly wish officer Hoppy's mother ~Nancy Kulp ~ would have teamed up with Esther against Fred more.

Even Bubba started insulting Esther in the later episodes.

It was also funny about the Grady episodes.... when Fred returned, apparently Grady was planning on staying on for a while in the Sanford home. Grady gets hurt when he overhears Lamont praising his father and starts to leave and Lamont stops him... I wonder were he was gonna sleep? And how long was he gonna stay ?

Good point about Lamont!

I know that they had to quickly rewrite things with Grady subbing for Fred while Mr. Foxx was trying to negotiate, but it seemed a bit much that Lamont wouldn't have called Grady on insulting Esther. In what galaxy does a family friend outrank an aunt? Besides, Esther was the one family member who considered Lamont to be an intelligent person so why wouldn't he have taken up for her MORE with Grady than he did when Fred (who constantly called him'Dummy') dissed her?

Hoppy's mother was real funny in few episodes she was in and probably the only one to stand up to Fred beside Esther. She seem to be out of place living in that neighborhood (and being a cop's mother), but she and Esther made a good tag team against Fred's insult.

I also believe alot of episodes that Grady was in was meant to be for Fred, including scenes where Grady and Esther tangle. Like when Lamont acted passive when Fred and Esther had word exchanges, and he was also passive when Grady and Esther trade insults.

I think they basically saw Grady as a member of the family... the way I understood it was, they had known him all their life and he moved out to Ca. with the Sanfords from St. Louis, so I guess that's why Lamont didn't make a huge deal out of it, although I thought he did kinda try to curtail Grady, like her does Fred

I like the show, and used to watch it when I was a kid, watching it as an adult, I see how truly nasty Fred can be sometimes lol ... Sometimes I find myself not laughing at the things he says to Esther I remember there was one occasion, I can't remember exactly what he said, but it was OVER THE TOP offensive and uncalled for.... It had something to do with one of her relatives dying when they looked at her or something like that... that was just wrong

In the show Sanford, Fred was REALLY softened up

I also agree that sometimes Fred went over the top insulting Esther to point of not being funny anymore. Throwing jokes and insults at Esther is funny when it is to inject humor into situation and story line (like when Esther entered into Watt's beauty pageant) . But insults are not funny when it is done as a stand alone jokes.
