Before Ronny Howard, Before Kurt Russell, Before Drew Barrymore & Before Jodie Foster, there was Dean Stockwell, The Original Child Star, who transitioned from a Child Star during the 1940s after World War II to a successful Adult Acting Career including such films and TV shows as "Dune," "Blue Velvet," "Paris, Texas" and the '80s Sci-Fi series "Quantum Leap."
The younger of 2 boys (including an older brother, Guy, who passed away in 2002 and was a successful actor in his own right) born to Harry Stockwell (the original Prince Charming in Disney's "Snow White") and Betty Veronica (who divorced Harry in 1947, when Dean was 11 years old, after which Harry would marry twice more before passing away in 1984 at age 79), Robert Dean Stockwell was born on March 5, 1936 in Los Angeles, California and raised soon afterwards in New York City, New York, where Dean made his Broadway debut at age 7 in 1943 in the short-lived Broadway show "Innocent Voyage." After "Innocent Voyage" closed on Broadway, Dean made his feature film debut at age 9 opposite Gene Kelly & Ol' Blue Eyes in "Anchors Aweigh," a film which began 9-year-old Dean's contract with MGM Motion Pictures, where he appeared in dozens of motion pictures between the ages of 9 and 15. Upon graduating from High School in 1954, at age 18, Dean enrolled at the University of California in Berkeley, only to drop out the following year, after which he transitioned into young-adult roles during the Infancy of Television. In 1968, after a 3-year Showbiz hiatus, Dean returned to Acting via the cult hit "Psych-Out," continuing to appear on both film and TV over the course of the next 37 years until permanently retiring in 2015 after surviving a Stroke. At his current age of 85, Dean Stockwell enjoys his favorite hobby of Painting, and even sold a few of his Paintings in rural Taos, New Mexico. |
