Default Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie spouse swap

How do you think Jeannie and Darrin would be as a couple? And Tony and Samantha?

I wonder how it would have worked out if Darrin found Jeannie's bottle? Would he object to her using magic under those circumstances?

I wonder how Endora and Tony would have gotten along? I feel like Endora would have liked Tony a bit better than Darrin

Well Darrin was against the use of magic whereas Tony was more paranoid about the consequences of it. Jeannie told Roger Healey once that her poor master "gets so nervous." Darrin probably would have just left Jeannie bottled up.

Jeannie would have driven Darrin bonkers, no doubt.

I think Tony and Samantha would have made a very good couple. Samantha would not have kept Tony on edge so much and Tony would not have objected to Samantha being HERSELF, and mainly for that reason, I think Endora would have approved SOMEWHAT more of Tony than Darrin.

I just cannot imagine Jeannie and Darrin together. Darrin mainly objected to Samantha using her magick because he wanted them to have a "normal" marriage.... If Darrin found Jeannie's bottle, he would technically be her master, not her husband, so I'm not sure if he would have objected to her magick or not. I think Jeannie would retaliate on Darrin more lol

To me the most interesting thing about Samantha and Tony being together, is the actors playing it.

Elizabeth Montgomery and Larry Hagman's egos would have collided, and it would have ended very badly, there isn't a show that can keep two egos so big like theirs. Both of them wanted to be the stars of their shows, and both did bad things behind the scenes to make sure that all revolved around them.

I was disappointed to hear that about Larry Hagman, he seemed so sweet as Tony Nelson.... I always thought Hagman would have made a decent Mike Brady, had they let Robert Reed go, I heard there was a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff with him too.

I also heard IDOJ was considering letting Hagman go as well. Imagine how even MORE similar IDOJ would have been to Bewitched had they had to get a "new Tony"

There was a new Tony in the two IDOJ movies, so there we go.

Sheldon considered giving Jeannie a new master and not necessarily recasting Tony Nelson. The story told was that original IDOJ director Gene Nelson and Larry Hagman hated each other and argued constantly. Gene Nelson told Sidney Sheldon that if he didn't fire Hagman he would quit. Sheldon asked Barbara which she thought was more important to the show and she chose Hagman. Gene Nelson never forgave Barbara. Hagman was apparently a terror behind the scenes, but brilliant onscreen.

However and rather ironically Bill Asher directed the first (and awful) Jeannie reunion movie and simply replaced Larry Hagman rather than pay him what Barbara was making (per Hagman himself in one story).

I don't think they even talked to Larry Hagman about being in the second reunion movie. Tony was completely written out on a space mission somewhere and Jeannie couldn't find him (something that contradicted the TV series). The script was absolutely awful and Hagman didn't miss anything. For some reason they forgot to make the IDOJ reunion movies comedies. Both are dreadful.

Elizabeth Montgomery was right to refuse any Bewitched reunion movie ideas. She knew they could never top what they did on the show.

Yeah the IDOJ movies were almost more like dramas. One thing though, in the first movie, Jeannie seemed totally wise to her sister's sinister ways, but in the second movie she falls for her schemes again if I remember right

I kinda wish they had done a Bewitched reunion movie.... I'd kinda like to see Samantha and Darrin's life in the 80s and 90s

Jeannie was madly in love with Tony because he was a cute guy, so there's no way she would have fallen in love with someone like Darrin (Dick York), it wouldn't have worked.
