The Cosby Show alum, who has been recurring on This Is Us, will assume her new job on July 1. Rashad has spent years as an acting teacher at Howard University, where one of her students was the late Chadwick Boseman. |

Phylicia Rashad's celebration of Bill Cosby's release has left the Howard University community in dismay, with some students calling for her firing
The former Cosby Show star started her new job as dean of the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University on Thursday, one day after she celebrated the overturning of Cosby's sexual assault conviction on Twitter. “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted- a miscarriage of justice is corrected!" Rashad tweeted, and later deleted, before walking back her comment in a follow-up tweet. Rashad's tweet has "rattled" the Howard University community. "The exhilaration and pride that had followed the May announcement that the class of 1970 alumna and Tony Award-winning actress would be joining the staff was, for many, replaced with dismay, rage and shame," reports the Los Angeles Times' Ruth Etiesit Samuel. "Just a few weeks before, Katherine Gilyard had joked that she’d switch her major from the School of Communications to the College of Fine Arts just to learn from Rashad. But after reading Rashad’s tweets, she said, her stomach churned." Gilyard says of Rashad: "Now, I wouldn’t walk past Fine Arts if she remains like the current dean of the school. To see how happy she was, rejoicing and thrilled that it’s been overturned … I feel disgusted. That was like a very visceral reaction. My stomach kind of turned, like this is disgusting and not something you expect from someone like that. Yes, they should fire her, but knowing Howard, I don’t think they will.” Samuel adds: "Many people wondered, both publicly on social media and privately, how Rashad could celebrate Cosby’s release after more than 60 women had accused him of assault. More important: How could she be trusted to oversee the needs of college students and campus sexual assault survivors?" Meanwhile, the New York Post reports that outraged Howard University students and alumni are calling for Rashad to be fired. “Hold her a** accountable,” musician Whitney Meritus, class of 2024, wrote on Instagram. “I’d take a non-famous dean who believes (sex assault) victims over a celebrity dean who does s*** like this." |

If Howard U fires her it will be their loss... I don't think that they will- time will tell.
CNN https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/02/us/ph...ter/index.html The Cosby Show actress Phylicia Rashad issued an apology to Howard University where she serves as dean of the fine arts program on Friday following her tweet celebrating the release of her former co-star Bill Cosby. After the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled to vacate the 2018 sexual assault conviction against Cosby on Wednesday, Rashad tweeted, “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted- a miscarriage of justice is corrected!” However, Rashad deleted the tweet following criticism from the public as well as Howard University students and faculty; earlier this year, it was announced that Rashad who was a mentor to Chadwick Boseman during his time at the university would serve as the dean of Howard’s College of Fine Arts named after the late actor. In an email to Howard University students and parents Friday, Rashad wrote, “My remarks were in no way directed towards survivors of sexual assault. I vehemently oppose sexual violence, find no excuse for such behavior, and I know that Howard University has a zero-tolerance policy toward interpersonal violence.” Rashad added that she planned to “engage in active listening and participate in trainings to not only reinforce University protocol and conduct, but also to learn how I can become a stronger ally to sexual assault survivors and everyone who has suffered at the hands of an abuser.”

“Howard University you must support ones Freedom of Speech (Ms. Rashad), which is taught or suppose to be taught everyday at that renowned law school, which resides on your campus,” the statement declared, speaking of the fictional Claire Huxtable’s real-life assertion of support for Cosby’s release on June 30.

Stephanie Mills @PrettyMill1 (Jul 3) I love you @phyliciarashad ❤️❤️❤️. If it’s true that Howard University wants to terminate her Position because they feel her comments about Mr. Cosby were insensitive, then they should give back the millions of dollars that he donated to the university. |

I hope they do fire her. She just like her character and it shows that she wasn't acting. Very smug and arrogant.
