Original pilot
I read recently that Sally Field initially turned down "The Flying Nun", since she was still disappointed over the cancellation of "Gidget". So the producers filmed a pilot with their second choice, Ronne Troup, who later played Polly Douglas on "My Three Sons". ABC wasn't happy with the pilot, and the producers managed to convince Sally to assume the role, and reshot the pilot.
I'd be interested to see the pilot with Ronne Troup, though. I think Sally was extremely appealing, and was able to carry a very weak show with her winning performance. I bet the show was pretty bad without her. |
