Jim Steinman, who wrote all of the songs for Meat Loaf’s classic album, Bat Out Of Hell, has died, according to celebrity gossip site, TMZ. According to the site, Steinman died Monday in Connecticut, although cause of death is unclear. The site says, “We do know it appears it was sudden … there was a medical emergency call to his home around 3:30 AM Sunday to transport a male patient.” Steinman has also worked with a number of other artists, including Bonnie Tyler (he wrote and produced her hit, “Total Eclipse of the Heart”), Air Supply (he wrote and produced “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All”) and Celine Dion (he co-produced her “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now,” which he wrote for a group called “Pandora’s Box”). Steinman was 73 years old. |

I remember in 1978, 1979 when I bought 'Bat Out Of Hell'. I was of the impression that the "heavier" an album cover looked, that the music totally RAWKED LIKE HELL. The album cover of a motorcycle rider bursting out of a grave was pretty impressive!
Well, not everything was like KISS or Rush back then judging by the look of an album cover. Meat Loaf had a lot of ballads and some solid rockers. Back then he was a rising star. There was the female duet singer with him (her name escapes me) and she was part of the act. And "normal looking" rocker guy Jim Steinman was Meat Loaf's right hand man in songwriting. Inseparable partnership. But even though the album wasn't "heavy metal", it told stories about relationships and other dramatic themes. And though it took years until they made it big again, the song "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" really grabbed me. Meat Loaf was quite a singer and Jim Steinman really knew how to write great songs. |

Jim was born in 1947, not 1948.

R.I.P. Jim Steinman.
I have a 45 RPM record with the full version (5 minutes, 23 seconds) of Two Out Of Three Aint Bad on the one side and Paradise By The Dashboard Light (7 minutes, 55 seconds) on the other side. It's a valued item in my collection of vinyl 45's. |
