Default Why was Michael so biased towards people who…

weren’t in the same situation as him or was superior to him in the first four seasons. He toned it down a bit in the fourth season, but he was out of control in the first three seasons. I mean, really? Telling the family they should buy Cream Of Wheat instead of eating oatmeal everyday because it had a illustration of a working black man on the front cover of the box, taking in Ned The Wino without his parents permission just because he was a struggling, nasty, drunk black man on the streets, insulting the sorority girl who was coming over and called her a “honkey” not even knowing how she was going to behave just because she was white and in a better situation than them, stereotypicalizing rich black people by referencing how The Evans eat their chicken fried but they eat it boiled, telling Florida she should’ve bought chocolate ice cream because he was black, and irrelevantly bringing up Medgar Evers when the police officers were looking for Cleatus. I’m sure there’s many other insinuations and insults Michael made but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. The things Michael got away with in the first four seasons.

I wish someone had piped up to Michael that chocolate beans and vanilla pods both were first discovered and cultivated in Central America- nowhere near Africa or Europe for that matter!

I only agreed with Michael once, when Florida wanted him to go in the bathroom and put some clean towels in there because of a white teenage girl like she was the First Lady lol And michael was like........"for a honky?

I do agree with Michael there, Florida went overboard, but the way Michael said for a honkey was so outrageous and malicious

The officers stammering when questioned about Medgar Evers was ridiculous. Guys at their level had no say in what cases were investigated. They’d have shared the same with some kid asking about it. Medgar Evers death should have been investigated for sure, but the exchange on Good Times was just played for politics.

100% agree with all of your examples. Michael was so over the top. His personality was way too aggressive and grating.

Yes, it was very out of line and showed Michael as a racist. He should have said: "For some stranger"? Not "honky." That was just awful.

Later on in interviews Ralph Carter said that he was given many of the controversial lines to say because it was more acceptable for a child to say these things than an adult.

Other than Jimmy Walker clowning around, the only episode that really stuck with me was the one where Michael was pushed into joining a gang. At the end when Michael is fighting the gang leader and the others rush to help the gang leader, Esther Rolle picks up a baseball bat to scare then away.

I would agree ONLY if Florida made it clear that she was trying to impress the girl just because she was white, but Florida did not say that so I think Michael was out of line with his comment. I still think he should have said "for some STRANGER"? Not "honky."
Actually, even if Florida did in fact make it clear that she was trying to impress the girl just because she's white, Michael could have said "for some WHITE girl"? instead of "honky"
