Edith was, without a doubt, a little scatter-brained. However, she wasn't as much of a "dingbat" as Archie said she was. She judged people for who they were, not for their race or religion. Also, she was the one who usually ended up being the peacemaker
when a disagreement occured in the household. Does anyone else agree with my opinion? ------------------ |

Agreed, Rob. She especially became less of a dingbat in the later seasons. With Mike and Gloria out of the house (and later in California), somebody had to stand up to Archie, and more and more, it was Edith. Her character really evolved over the course of the show. I know a lot of people don't like the later years as much, but I love Archie and Edith's relationship towards the end of the show.

Edith went from Dingbat (early), to Edith Bunker becuase of two things. 1)Mike and Gloria leaving for Cali, and 2)Irene Lorenzo. Edith didn;t start standing up to archie til she showed up.

I agree that Edith Bunker did act like a dingbat. Yet, Edith was also warm-hearted and made funny faces. Edith had a way of looking scared and a way of saying "oh...." Notice how she slowly said Oh while sounding scared? Also, Edith was assertive also: when Edith wanted to go for dinner and Archie refused and said that he only went to the bar to get away from her, Edith grabbed her coat and when Archie asked her where she was going, she said, " I am going out for dinner... to get away from YOU!'' I also enjoy how Edith used the analogy: "getting baptised is like standing outside in the rain.!!"

I loved Edith, she was fun and knew how to have a good time, especially without Archie around. Remember the episode where they were waiting for Archie to come home and Mike and Gloria were having that kissing competition and Irene showed up and then the Jeffersons. Edith had some wine and was hoola hooping. I remember Archie's face when he walked in the door and saw them this party goin on without him.
