Default Any time you wished someone had stood up to Mama and put her in her place?

Don't get me wrong I LOVE Mama, but one thing I always hated was when INNOCENT people would get caught in the crossfires of her wrath, people who have NOTHING to do with whatever she's pissed off about.

A couple of instances that come to mind were:

I thought she treated Fran's will executor HORRIBLE! Offering him cookies, then SLAPPING his hand when he starts to get one, then basically going off on him at the end because she's pissed over ruining her dress.

Then in the episode where she and Bubba are working in the Burger place, she's upset with her family and goes off on a rant and ends up going over and WRECKING some random family's table who were just there to have breakfast, they had NOTHING to do with her problems and had NO IDEA what was going on, they were just minding their business trying to eat.
And how she insulted innocent customers who did nothing but.....ENTER the place.

And I'm sure quite a few innocent people got hit with her purse for NO REASON other than they happened to be standing in the wrong place at a time when she was incensed about something.

Sometimes I wish some people would have pushed back against her HARDER when she behaved like that! Where is Eunice when you need her?

Among non-strangers, Naomi did so in the early episodes- though she also said that the things that she loved it when Mama did things to other people, that usually annoy her when mama does it to her. (Speaking of that burger episode, you can see Dorothy Lyman trying not to crack up during Mama's rant).

And, let's not forget Fran's big moment with her sister, "Even mosquitoes reproduce!"

When she and Iola would have a tiff, Iola also would give it back to her.

I guess I don't mind so much her going off on her family, right or wrong, at least they are the one's she's in conflict with. What I don't like is when some random, innocent stranger is pulled into her drama for NO REASON other than they just happened to be standing in the wrong place at the wrong time, in her line of fire. Like at the DMV, she's all upset because she's told to go to the back of the line, so she goes over to get a chair to set in as she waits, and there's a man standing there just minding his own business in line and, I GUESS because he didn't move fast enough out of the way and Mama was already upset to begin with, she wacks him with her purse, and I THINK says something like, "Get out of the damn way!"

I've always loved this show, and I DID think it was funny when I was a kid, but as an adult, I realize how much it would suck to just be minding your own business, doing your job, etc and get screamed at and HIT for no reason.

When Mama was working at the Food Circus checkout, I felt sorry for the shopper whose caramel rolls Mama utterly destroyed by smashing them in the scanner- and then got told," Get you something in the diet section. You didn't need that anyway, Chubs!"

You realize the show is a comedy and Mama Harper was always a crude person. OMG the early Carol Burnett skits she was brutal. She was much more calm on all of the Mamas Family. I think its funny when she goes after someone.
Supermarket is my favorite episode ever. She attacks Naomi and the customers but Mama learns a lesson in the end.

In Mama Gets A Job she was brutal on that old couple and its hilarious.

We realize it's comedy, but we can discuss the dynamics on a message board. And yes I did not like Mama's character at ALL on the Carol Burnett Show. I mean I LIKED her as far as acting the part, but Mama was HORRIBLE on the Eunice sketches, she was boarder line abusive to her children, esp to Eunice.

Yeah that was another time, and I'm thinking HOW does Mama have any room to remark on someone's weight? It's like when she called a couple of people 4-eyes in a couple of episodes, I'm thinking, "WTF!?!" lol

Thanks for your support!

Yeah, and it's one thing for her to dis her dysfunctional family members (who hadn't been shy about dissing her) and pal neighbors but for her 'pot calling kettle' deal on total strangers to their faces? That was a bit too far(although I have to admit that I wouldn't have been above thinking the same things but NOT saying them outloud).

I have a question for Ask Thelma

Ask Thelma is busy right now

I just want to know what to do about a tea stain on the rug

Put a chair over it!

Well she was in a high pressured situation at McRay’s. First of all, Mr. Herdman should’ve realized that Thelma was no spring chicken. He’s talking to her like she’s an eleven year old. First, he forces her to go faster, doesn’t even acknowledge her kindness towards the customers and her old age, and compares her to her grandson, Bubba, who is working beside her. Bubba is a teenager. Then she goes faster with a lot of pressure put on her due to Mr. Herdman. Mr. Herdman is still complaining, this time about Thelma pressuring the customers (you don’t think she’s being pressured too?) Then, her aggravating, lazy family comes in to aggravate Thelma. Vinton asked for fried eggs, Thelma simply tells him they don’t serve fried eggs, but instead of being a man about it and ordering something else, Vinton throws a tantrum like a four year old in the middle of McRay’s just because they didn’t have fried eggs. Then Naomi and Iola give her some trouble. Mr. Herdman could obviously see Thelma was having trouble with her family and was stressed, he could’ve approached them and told them to back off, but does he do that, no. He goes to Thelma and fires her instead. She was just trying to do her job.

Again, I have no problem with her going off on her family, its just when she goes off on some poor innocent person who has NOTHING to do with what's going on, they just happen to be in Thelma's line of fire. Like when she snaps at the old man in line, "Come one POPS, this isn't the public library!!" Yeah sure it's FUNNY, but then you think if that was YOUR grandfather some hateful server talked that way to......, then goes all the way over to the other side of the restaurant and wrecks a family's table
