Thumbs up Rudy KFC Commercials

Rudy is one of my all-time favorite movies. I'm not sure who came up with this commercial campaign featuring Sean Astin a few years ago, but they were brilliantly done. They even had the real Dan "Rudy" Ruettiger in one of them as his father. I'd say they were finger lickin' good, but they suspended the use of that slogan.

Isn't Rudy the movie about the football team that wins a championship game? What a surprise that KFC made commercials based on Rudy because I have never seen these commercials or the movie Rudy because I LOVE sports movies. What new KFC food are the commercials promoting?
Thank you very much about telling me about these commercials TJ i'll keep an eye out for them

No, it was not a championship year. In 1975, Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger was a walk-on college football player from Joliet, IL for the University of Notre Dame (Indiana) Fighting Irish. He was basically a practice squad player, at first under coach Ara Parseghian (until 1974) and then Dan Devine ('75 season). He got to play in the final regular-season home game of his senior year, with ND ahead 24-3 late in the 4th quarter -- where he sacked the Georgia Tech quarterback as time expired.

The "Rudy" film came out in 1993, based on his diligent work for the team and motivation to play hard despite not being the greatest athlete around. The movie focuses on his determination to attend ND and play for them, starting with his family in Joliet and his enrollment at Holy Cross Junior College (right nearby ND; Rudy then transfers). Much if it was filmed right on the Notre Dame campus, including scenes inside the stadium, the marching band on a current gameday, etc. People came as extras for some stadium scenes and were asked to wear '70s style clothes. By 1997 the stadium was expanded upward, so the movie producers got to film the stadium as it had appeared in 1975 -- basically unchanged in all those years (aside from new scoreboards).

One of my favorite things about the film is that it shows how Rudy, while working assisting the groundskeeper, secretly leaves a stadium window unlocked, so he can come back at night to enter and sleep in there...!

Sean Astin appears in the KFC commercials -- he had portrayed Rudy in the film.

If you love sports movies, I highly recommend you check this one out. It's more than just a football movie. It's about an underdog who worked his butt off to pursue his dream. I don't want to spoil it for you, but it's a very uplifting and inspirational story. It has made grown men cry. Rudy is just a great movie with an outstanding cast and beautiful scenery. It has a wonderful music score by Jerry Goldsmith, which you can hear in the commercials. That was a nice touch that they used it.

I think the commercials were just promoting the KFC brand. I didn't know they had cakes on the menus. They look delicious. I must pass on them because I'm trying to watch my weight.

My favorite Sean Astin performance. The movie I mean, he's good in the commercial as well.

Sorry I should have started with /***spoilers***/ but the film is approaching 3 decades old, so I thought most people interested have seen it.

I've read Rudy's biographical book and he goes into detail about things like his enrollment, the change of head coaches, etc.
