Sad Christian Music Legend Carman (1956-2021)

https://www.ccmmagazine.com/news/ico...egas-hospital/

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (February 16, 2021) – GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame member, CARMAN, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at a Las Vegas, Nevada hospital, after fighting a series of complications resulting from surgery to repair a hiatal hernia.

Carman Dominic Licciardello, known to fans worldwide as “Carman,” was 65.

Born January 19, 1956 in Trenton, New Jersey, Carman began his musical career playing drums in his mother’s band at the age of 15. Carman holds the world record for having the largest audience to see a single Christian artist. He set the record for the largest concert at Texas Stadium with more than 71,000 fans and led more than 80,000 fans in worship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Among his many awards, Carman received the House of Hope of Humanitarian Award for his positive influence in the lives of American youth in 2006, other noted recipients of this award include Ronald & Nancy Reagan and Billy Graham. The Gospel Music Association honored Carman with induction into the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2018. Billboard named Carman “Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year” in 1992 and 1995, and in 1993, his album, Addicted to Jesus, earned the distinction of Contemporary Christian Album of the Year. Carman was Grammy-nominated multiple times as the Best Pop Contemporary Gospel Artist. His recording, “A Long Time Ago in a Land Called Bethlehem” was nominated for “Album of the Year” by the Recording Academy in 1986.

In 1985, the release of his first #1 song, “The Champion,” solidified his place in music history and defined his soul-winning career as one of endurance, grit, dedication, and pure talent. Anyone who knew Carman knows that he counted only this as his greatest lifetime achievement – winning millions of souls to Christ.

Matt Felts, Carman’s manager, states: “When Carman resumed touring again a few years ago, he was concerned that no one would care that he was back. He was wrong. Every night fans packed out venues and his ministry was as powerful as it ever was. This world has lost a light in the darkness but today Carman saw first hand the fruit of his labors.

Carman was planning to embark on a 60-city tour later this

Didn't Carman have a hit with a song named Riot which stood for "righteous invasion of truth" I didn't even know that Carman was ill because the little I knew about him he seemed to be a great singer from the two singles I had of him on my WOW "a Christian version of the NOW series" albums. And Carman also released a children's album called Yo Kids as well and if memory serves correctly Carman used be the opening act for Jaci Velasquez in her concerts. What a surprise that Carman passed away because he had an amazing career and he was really talented. I wonder if there's gonna be a tribute album of Carman's songs in the works?

Sad Rock in peace, Carman.

I remember when I first heard Carman back in the 80's, I thought his way of entertaining was a little gimmicky and juvenile. But then I understood it was a way of grabbing an audience's attention. He really did have a passion for Christ and he really got people's attention. And he made his stories of the risen Christ and his power really effective. Not so many innovators in storytelling like that in Christian music anymore.

I got to listen to some Carman songs this morning and one of the songs I listened to was Holy Ghost Hop and when I heard him sing he reminded me of a Christian Billy Joel and Holy Ghost Hop is a cool song that's great for dancing. I also found his other song The Champion in a new rerecorded version and it is fantastic as well. My mom didn't even know that Carman died because she had never heard of him before and it's shocking that Carman passed away from a hernia surgery because from what I heard of Carman's music he had loads of talent and he really showed it well for his fans

I found two other Carman songs today and one is called Soap Song "which is not about soap but about soap operas" and a song called Mission 3:16 which has a James Bond movie sounding intro and it is an awesome song. When my mom and I were cleaning my room she noticed I had a WOW cd in my stereo and a Carman song came on which happened to be Mission 3:16 and Mom asked me "who is that" and I said Carman and she liked his songs as well. Did you ever hear the Carman song Mission 3:16?

Yes I have. I actually own a copy of Carman's cd Mission 3:16, so that's the title song. It's sad he's gone he was a good singer and a great man of God, but he's singing with the angels now.

I found another WOW album in my box of music today which happened to have another Carman song which is Riot and it's a cool song that showed Carman's rap talents very well and he won a Dove Award for that song in 1997
