hello, today i was checkin up all the new shows for fall of 2002 and i noticed something, more dramas coming out than sitcoms. now i do know that Dramas usually dont get cancelled as much as comedy sitcoms and some channels like like 1 sitcom and 3-4 dramas (UPN, i think) Drama has been very popular this new and 2 of them proved to be #1 & #2 this year of top rated shows. (Er and CSI, i think) where #3 was a sitcom (Friends) I know we still have alot of current sitcoms but they are gonna last forever. Friends is in its last season,Sabrina, everybody loves raymond, frasier and a few others are probably getting close to end in the next 2 seasons or so. What im saying is that we are only getting like 1 show a season to become a hit(2001 was Skrubs). What im saying is, could it be, that in the future Dramas will be over powering Comedies. After reviewing 2002 Fall season i suspect that only a few sitcoms will do well while others theres a chance to be a hit or miss... or crap in the begining. I know theres a few shows that wont be probably going anywhere for awhile (Will & Grace,Skrubs,Macolm in the middle & Bernie Mack)
What shows do u say are a hit? my picks are Thats what i like about you 8 simple rules. chance: in-laws others im undecided if they even have a chance. |

Reba was probably the other big hit of this season. The only reason i said Skrubs was because theres so much talk about that show, i figured more people would could see that as the big hit of 2001 because of the critics and how NBC is treating it. |

I'd also like to comment on Reba both Reba and Scrubs were the only two sitcoms that were real hits. No one was a bigger hit. They both gave each network (the WB and NBC) great ratings although most critics did like Scrubs and most critics didn't like Reba. But I think there both pretty good shows. |

I doubt sitcoms will ever go away.
One hour dramas do not sell as well in syndication as sitcoms do, because most of them have recurring storylines, so it is hard to keep track of the plotline if you just tune in randomly. As long as production companies (particularly the ones owned by the networks) want to make big bucks in syndication, they will continue to produce sitcoms. Besides, this is probably just a trend that will go away. In a few seasons, they'll be reporting about the boom of "new sitcoms this Fall." |

yeah i guess your right, Drama is just a fad, i mean, what happen to those shows like Who Wants to be a millionaire,Greed & The weakest link.... CANCELLED!! i mean, they were a fad for about 2 years and most of the new shows got cancelled. Drama will probably be the same way. I just wanna see a new sitcom thats a major hit that i can actually enjoy watching alot. I mean, Skrubs and Reba were hits, but i dont know if i see them as Classic Sitcoms ya know? Actually, im surpised that Greg the Bunny wasnt a hit, it was a good idea, and the cast was good & the bunny was and plot was pretty good... i dunno..Sitcoms are here to stay. I just wanna find a sitcom that i can really enjoy obsessing over since Friends is almost gone!

As I have posted before, shows like "Greg The Bunny" are too risky or off the wall for FOX now. They are trying to show everyone they can do more "traditional" TV fare like the other major networks.
Family sitcoms are on the rise, now all the networks will be doing shows like "My Wife And Kids," "Bernie Mac" or "Everybody Loves Raymond." While a lot of folks applaud the decision to embace more family oriented programming, there are some of us who enjoy more "adventerous" stuff, like "Greg" or "The Tick" or "The Job." I guess we'll have to wait until the pendulum swings back in a few years... |
