Ya think Ward would know who Lumpy was or what ?

I've not seen the episode recently. Is it possible that Ward is not familiar with the nick "lumpy"? His dad preferred "Clarence" if I recall properly.

In that episode Fred is not familiar with the nickname Lumpy, either. Kinda odd too.

Ward not knowing the name Lumpy is similar to the sixth season episode, the gas station credit card episode, where Agnes Haskell refers to Wally as "that Cleaver boy." Come on, Aggie, you gotta know Wally by then!

I have seen numerous episodes with Fred Rutherford, including the ones where he calls Lumpy "a big boob." I think that type of treatment from Fred to Lumpy is why Lumpy was such a bully in the early episodes.

Fred told Ward that he smacked Lumpy right in the mouth. None of that modern psychology crap for him.

In S1, Ep29 "Tenting Tonight" Ward picks up his boys, and their friends at the movies. Ward sees Fred there. Ward asks, "How's Lumpy?" Fred responds, "Oh Clarence? I remember Fred running hot & cold remembering his son's nickname Lumpy his first few appearances.
