That is a good job of colorizing. Sometimes they neglect properly doing the mouth & teeth and leave it in b&w.

Some are strictly against colorizing. I like it "sometimes." It was fun to see the Christmas episodes of "Andy Griffith" and "I Love Lucy" and "Bewitched", but I am not for colorizing those entire seasons. However, I do really like the first 2 seasons of "Bewitched" in color. I suppose that is because I was used to seeing the majority of the series in color. It was fun to see how this one dress of Sam's would be a different color in the various episodes when she wore it--sometimes blue, green or pink.

Christmas movies are different. I prefer the colorized versions of my favorite ones, especially "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street."

I agree, it's a good job. Take a look at Donna's bow, though. Like I said it's probably red but they forgot to do anything with it.

I agree about the first 2 seasons of Bewitched, but I never noticed Sam's same dress, different color. The first season of Gilligan's Island, done by Turner around 1990, is absolutely horrible. I'll take the black and white, thank you! (Fortunately, I'm not an avid fan.)

Yes, Gilligan's Island colorized eps are probably about the worst live-action job out there, and still being aired by MeTV. The limitations of the old technology are on display. By contrast, the primetime airing of colorized The Dick Van Dyke Show was superb. There are lots of colorized Laurel & Hardy and Charlie Chaplin films on YouTube now as well. I've yet to see one I wouldn't label acceptable in quality.

I actually have It's a Wonderful Life that I bought in colorized VHS form to see Donna in color, but I'm going to wait to get a new machine before trying to run it (old machine and old yet unused tape).

There are at least 2 colorized versions of "It's a Wonderful Life", that I have seen.

The first one is crappy. I first saw it on television in the 80's, so with your copy being on VHS, I hope it is not that version. The DVD release with both versions b&w and colorized, is very good.

Anyone who's read my colorizing posts in the past knows I love colorization. However these home-made colorizing jobs you see so much of on U-tube nowadays are really bad. Some are downright barely colorized at all. I've seen them on Utube they're done by a computer program people can download called "Deoldify", I believe there's another company doing the same sort of half-assed colorizing as Deoldify. What these utube Deoldify jobs remind me of is colorization when it was in it's infancy. Blobs of orange plastered on a face, orange teeth, orange hair, orange eyes, blue blobs plastered on suits dresses 1/2 b/w 1/2 purple and anytime there greenery it's always one shade of green. And you'll notice there's never any bright red colors in these home made jobs. In the early days of colorizing in the '80's bright red was an impossible color to do. Now today when professionally done it's beautiful. But apparently we've gone back in time to '80's style colorizing on Utube with Deoldify. I will say they are good at colorizing skies and mountains though, but people and details inside a house are horrible. And this is coming from someone who loves colorizing, by the way.

When done professionally today and for the past 10 years or so it's beautiful. I love my colorized Bewitched's and my colorized Dream of Jeanie, and the colorized Holiday Inn they look absolutely perfect. I'd never watch a b/w version of these again. Sure I WISH these homemade Deoldiify jobs on Utube looked just 1/4 as good as the modern day pro jobs. But alas not yet, maybe one day (hopefully before I assume room temperature) the technology will improve VASTLY and the homemade Utube jobs will look great, but that day hasn't arrived yet.

As for It's A Wonderful Life, that movie was actually colorized 3 different times. The first time in the early '80's (on VHS tape) it was done by Hal Roach Studios and the quality was just as horrible as the Deoldify jobs are today. This was done in the very infancy of colorizing, and it was bad back then in the early '80's. This is what, unfortunately the Utube Deoldify homemade jobs look like today. 100 steps backward in technology in these homemade Utube jobs. Then It's A Wonderful Life was Re-colorized by Republic Pictures in the '90's and that colorizing job was a huge improvement over the Hal Roach job. I thought it was great till I then saw the even newer 3rd colorized version available still today on DVD. Today you can get this EXCELLENT version sold with a b/w version, both together. But that 2nd version was mighty good, just that the new 3rd version is even better.

As I always say, I'd rather watch any b/w TV show or Movie colorized, but I would want to see them looking as good as modern technology can make them. Deoldify is a huge step backward in quality to the 1980's, that's what gave colorization it's bad name to begin with. Many people still assume it's just as bad, never bothering to check out anything new. Too bad for them.

Yes, some things are pretty obvious, like Donna's bow that probably should be red, (on a second view) the blue tinge on Shelley's neck (from the blue background), and that Donna's collar changes from white to skin tone when she moves her head. I'd bet these things are easily correctable within the program, if the person cares.

Holding it up against my example of the worst colorization I've ever seen (Gilligan's Island S1) , it's not that bad, IMO.

Some YouTube colorizations do state that they're "experimental," so I don't have expectations as high as the bar set by CBS for primetime recently. The western I linked to elsewhere tended to have way too much green in the backgrounds, instead of the dusty streets & trails that were filmed.

Wow, I am really surprised. So many times in the past I have praised some genuinely nice colorization jobs and I have had the most picky analyzers disagree with me. The excellent Bewitched and Dream of Jeanie and I Love Lucy color versions I have praised and yet there they are the nay-sayers telling me how lousy they all look.

Well, now here these very poorly done throw-backs to the primitive age of colorization of the mid 1980's are receiving great praise when they are obviously in so many ways flawed. What's happened? Is it that any colorization no matter how bad it looks is better than b/w? If that's the case I'd agree, but to actually praise these bad looking color jobs on You Tube and here with Johnny Angel as looking beautiful is mind baffling.

Let's face it, they look terrible and certainly not real life like. Gray hands and necks, same color backgrounds, generally purple, NO real red colors anywhere (red was back in the early days of colorizing the only color they could not do and today the Deoldify process is right back there with the old 1985 technology and still unable to produce reds) and no fine detail of individual colors of the many things in a background of a scene. Even the main focus of the camera the people gets just a blob of orange that covers the face and teeth, and a blob of pale yellow-green or brown for hair and that's what passes for Deoldify coloring of today. Exactly the kind of bad coloring that was what was seen in colorization's infancy of the mid 1980's.

This is exactly what gave colorization it's bad name for years amongst anti-colorizers, they all seemed to continuously base their opinions on colorization of the 1980s. Now here we go again with bad color jobs on Utube but now those same people seem to love it. Crazy man, like real crazy.
