watching him on Maude. The talent he had to switch up once he started Different Strokes takes skills. Maybe because he was around kids he had a different style of acting vs being around someone his age. I put him right under Maude has the top characters followed by Florida

He’s Valerie Bertinelli’s father in a movie (came out in 1979). He’s kinda Mr. Drummond-ish in that one.

Yeah probably went back to fatherly style of acting. The parental vibe. On Maude he is fun and upbeat and silly and I cant wait for him to come inside lol |

The Mr. Drummond character and the Arthur Harmon character are completely different. Mr. Drummond is much nicer, soft hearted and open minded than the stubborn, conservative yet loveable Arthur. So yes, Conrad Bain's acting skills are superb. Another example of superb acting skills is Rue McCallehan on Maude who plays "Vivian." She also played "Blanche" on Golden Girls. Vivian and Blanche are so very, very different. Vivian is shy, sort of submissive and a little conservative. Blanche is much, much looser than Vivian, also somewhat smarter. Rue also played "Fran" on Mama's Family. Another vastly different character personality. Rue was an awesome actor, too. So was Bea Arthur. I liked Maude, but I liked Dorothy Zbornack much more.

Conrad and Bea are the best actors on this show IMO. I know Arthur was supposed to be the "Mike" on this show but with conservative views instead. Conrad played that character so well I could never get annoyed by him like I do with Mike on All in The Family. His chemistry with Bea was spot on. It's a shame they never did a mini reunion on The Golden Girls. I would have loved to seen them act together again before they passed away.

Him, Vivian, Walter, and Maude had great chemistry. I wished he would’ve appeared on The Golden Girls as one of Dorothy’s or Blanche’s beaus. |

They had Ken Berry reunite with Rue and Betty. I don't understand why they couldn't get Conrad and Bill. It's not like they were doing anything by the time Golden Girls ended. Besides Rue for GG, I think Bea only reunited with Adrienne before passing away. I remember when Sony released their version of season 1 they both appeared on a morning talk show publicizing it. I remember Adrienne saying she always stayed in touch with Bea after Maude ended. They both seemed very close just like when they acted on Maude.

I was so surprised when I finally saw him on Maude, because he's so much more convincing as an arrogant blowhard than he was playing a rich white guy on Diff'rent Strokes, even though he looked the part of a Mr. Drummond.
