The guy who Jack and Chrissy was baby sitting for said their TV was out being repaired. If your TV was broken in 2020 you can just go to walmart and buy another the same day or next day. Guess TV's was that expensive during that time

These are on sale at KMart for $577 till Dec.24 1977.
By the way, that’s equivalent to about $2500 today https://www.saving.org/inflation/inf...=577&year=1977

I remember our family getting our TV repaired when I was a kid and that was in the early 90s.

When I had trouble with my 46" LG over a year ago I called a TV repairman & the manager said there's only about 2 left in this area! It also made no sense to pay $300 to $500 to repair it so I just bought a new one. |

Ah, yes. The old, giant consoles! My grandparents had one which sat on the floor in the living room. That takes me back. Actually, just seeing the Kmart logo at the bottom of the ad takes me back, too. My local Kmart closed two years ago, but I hadn't seriously shopped there since the 1990s; they hadn't updated anything since then. |

I have a stereo console TV in my living room, bought it about 20 years ago and it's still working. If that set ever conks out on me I don't know what I would do because I doubt I could find anyone to repair it and would probably have difficulty finding another stereo console set to replace it.

Yeah, it was before the days of people living on credit ! Nowadays even if you were broke, if your TV was broken it would be considered an emergency/ necessaty , even if you had to run up your credit card to get a new one same day or next day !

I guess we take things for granted, in my house in the 1980's we had up to four CRT TV's
- the main TV with wood cabinet paneling for the living room - one for the kitchen - one for my parents bedroom - one in me and my brothers room |

We always had a console (floor-model) TV in the living room, RCA or Zenith. I remember the last one we had, a Zenith, the repair guy had to take part of the internal components to his shop, like a tray -- easier than taking the whole thing in, which wasn't necessary.
My uncle kept a radio on top, which he listened to during the day while the TV was off. My mom and grandmother watched daytime soaps on the small TV in the dining room, which was the one I watched sitcoms & game shows on when I wasn't in school. |
