Is Melanie Moretti a “slut”?

So Wawwie around here thinks Melanie is a slut while a) I don’t and b) I never liked the double standard that men who have lots are sex are looked upon favorably while women who have lots of sex are called negative names.

So, starting my current Hot In Cleveland rewatch, I’ll track Melanie’s activities and see where we end up. So let’s begin and plow ahead (so to speak):

In the pilot she goes on her first date in 25 years while going though a divorce, but it doesn’t seem like anything happens with the guy.

If I'm remembering correctly, I'm certain that in the pilot, Melanie did have sex with the guy she only knew for a few hours on his boat. In later episodes, she also sexes it up with some stranger in an elevator. Pretty gross in my opinion.

No, I watched the pilot yesterday. Melanie heads off on the date, but we stay behind with Joy and Victoria as they find out the guy is married. They then go interrupt the two of them on his boat. Nothing after that in the dialog indicates anything happened yet. (Would it have? Maybe, maybe not. We can't assume).

The elevator episode is way down the road. Patience. We'll get there.

By the way, where can I pick up a pair of those Valerie goggles? They sound awesome.

I thought for sure that in the morning, Melanie gets into bed with Victoria and Joy where she recounts her date and the sex. Vic and Joy call her a tramp or something and I remember Melanie saying "I know, right..." That much I do remember. I also remember she was in her pajamas at the time. I'm just not sure if she was talking about the guy with the boat.

I never did watch much of this show, but I did see the pilot episode when it first aired and I clearly remember the following dialogue...

Joy: You are such a little slut!
Melanie: I know, right?!

It was the first time that I had ever heard that peculiar expression and I thought maybe that it was going to be her catchphrase. I even commented about it on here at the time.

The timeline in the pilot is the plane to Paris emergency lands in Cleveland, they meet the guys, a scene where they're still staying in a hotel, then they acquire the house which includes Elka, and Melanie heads off to the date. I watched after midnight so I could have dozed off for a second and missed something, but I don't think so (I admit I don't have Hot In Cleveland as well memorized as I do One Day At A Time)

And don't forget, Michael Lembeck directed the pilot

I think you did miss something when you dozed off because I'm 99% sure that Melanie got her freak on with the boat guy in the pilot episode. And that's the whole reason that Joy called her "a little slut"!

Okay, I rewatched the hotel scene in the link above wide awake and I’m willing to switch from “definitely did not” to “may or may not have “. Melanie comes in wearing the same shirt the guy had had been wearing (Did she put it on after sex? Did they just buy her an identical shirt?) and says he was showing her the town and complimenting her. I still think it could be taken either way though. But I say Joys line was tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken seriously.

All this occurs before the date on a boat scene.

If they did do it immediately it was because Melanie was still down and insecure after seeing her ex with someone young enough to be their daughter.
