Default Why does Sam call his stepfather “Mishter D”

Willis, Arnold, and Kimberly called Maggie by her given name. It seems odd and formal to call your stepfather mishter.

I think it was a poor attempt to imitate little Arnold of the early seasons. I can't stand Sam, sorry

Yeah, Arnold and Willis had done the same thing, calling him Mr. Drummond and Mr. D before switching to "Dad".

With Arnold and Willis, it was a different situation. Phil was their foster father and they switched when he formally adopted them. With Sam, it was his mother’s husband. He should have been on a first name basis with him, the way Phil’s kids were with Maggie.

Maybe it was out of respect and politeness.

I dunno, it just seemed kind of natural to me--Phil or Philip just doesn't sound right for a kid that young, and Dad, well--there was no talk of adoption.

I think it was the age difference. Sam was only 8 and Mr. Drummond was almost 60 so that's probably why. If he was in Highschool and Phill was 40 then I can see him saying Phil. Like how the Evans kids called their stepdad by his 1st name since they were older
