In "The Lodge" S7 E2 Andy & Howard break the news to Mrs Sprague that Howard wants to join the lodge. Of course Mrs Sprague doesn't take it too well. She says "you have so many other interests. Your work, your music." I don't remember Howard and his music interest ever being mentioned again.

Howard was a vocalist in the Mayberry Barbershop Quartet, also in the 7th season.
