There may be a discussion about this buried in the threads already, so I apologize if this is redundant.
I've seen every episode of Frasier over the years, but something still bothers me and I wonder if I missed something. How did it come to be that a live-in physical therapist does the washing, ironing, cooking and cleaning? And how is it that she refers to Frasier as her "boss" which I heard in an episode recently? She acts and is treated as an employee - "Daphne, get the door" - but if she was a PT, Marty would be her client, not her boss. When she and Niles get together, they talk about how she won't be "working for" Frasier and Martin anymore, meaning she won't be doing housework for them. While a live-in health care worker might do some cooking or cleaning for a disabled client, she wouldn't be treated as the maid and cook to the entire family the way Daphne is. |

Daphne's role in the Crane household is weird. Martin wasn't so disabled that he needed full time care, so Daphne essentially became the housekeeper. I love the show, but Daphne as a character never really made sense. Niles' obsession with her was strange too. She was nothing like Maris or any of the other women Niles was interested in.

A true PT now is at the doctorate level. This school charges $150,480 just for the PT progam and there is no way a PT is going to be paid crap wages as a housekeeper would.

Very strange. Also, remember that she was psychic at the beginning, too.
